• The Viet Minh originated in southern China. In southern china their where a large concentration of exiled members of Indo-Chinese communist party from Vietnam. These exile banded together with the common goal of forcing France and Japan out of Indochina. Actions of the Viet Minh

• The main actions of the Viet Minh were bought about on the battlefield. Using their superior guerilla fighting techniques and mobility, the smaller Viet Minh force defeated the much larger and technologically advanced French and Japanese armies.

Although the French and Japanese had far superior artillery and a fully equipped Air force, they fought the war in an ‘European’ fashion, a set piece war. The more mobile Viet Minh army refused to engage the enemy in any full frontal battles, preferring to make quick, light attacks on the enemy.
