Minutes for Membership Meeting January 2012The meeting was called to order by President Marlene Marolf at 1900 hours. Officers present
Vice-President Roger Granbois, Treasurer Harold Hansen, and Secretary John Lavelle. The
chapter made the pledge of allegiance and observed a moment of silence for all POW/MIA as
well as all those serving our country in harms way. The chapter members introduced themselves
as is our practice at each meeting and signed an attendance sheet. Membership chair Larry Witt
informed the members that we have 155 members in our chapter including AVVA members. The
minutes of the last chapter meeting were accepted as published in the newsletter. Harold Hansen
shared the current financial status with the members. The members heard from Terry Dell who
spoke to us concerning a move to the American Legion Post 26 for the chapter’s regular meeting
location. The chapter has meet at the Legion Hall on a number of occasions in the past year. We
have held our meetings on Wednesday nights since our charter, and having it at the hall on
Wednesday night creates a scheduling problem as Wednesday night is BINGO night for them.
Three members of the chapter are conducting a survey to determine the future of the chapter’s
meeting situation. Members should contact Marlene Marolf, Greg Paulline, and Roger Granbois
to share your concerns over this issue. After Terry Dell spoke to the members some discussionwas made about the move during the meeting, but it was felt that it was best to table this
discussion because of the logistics of the discussion. Roger Granbois read the chapter
correspondence which consisted of several thank you messages, one from a family that received a
Christmas basket from the chapter and also one from the Humility of Mary Shelter. A check
from Marjorie Gossard for $30 was donated to the chapter to be used to assist homeless veterans.
We also received a thank you from Sergeant Peppers for the donation we presented to him at
our Christmas party. David Woods hosted a meeting with the Mt. Joy Iowa National Guard unit
to discuss the VA benefits that they are entitled to because of their recent deployment.
Servicemen and women who were stationed near the DMZ in Korea during 1968 until 1971 have
recently been considered effected by Agent Orange. The training for volunteers for the GenesisHospice veterans honoring veterans program will be held on the last Friday of January and the
first Friday of February. Currently there are three members of the chapter involved in this
program, Lyle Peterson, John Lavelle, and Bob Konrardy. The Finance Committee presented a
number of proposals to the chapter for donations, the first was $800 for the Wounded Warrior
program, the second was for $800 to the Marines Helping Marines, the third was for $1000 to
Jason’s Box to be given in two payments of $500 over the next year. Another proposal was for
$250 to assist with the development of an education center to be built at the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. to help educate future generations concerning the war in
Vietnam. All of these proposals were passed after some discussion by chapter members. Thechapter also was asked to donate $400 to The English River Outfitters to help with their program
to help serve injured veterans with hunting events. After some discussion this proposal also was
voted on by the members and passed. Art Heyderman told the members about the Christmas
visit to the Iowa City VA Hospital and also informed the members that the next visit would be on
15 March. Those planning to attend will meet at the Machine Shed at 7:00 AM and will leave at
8:00 AM. Greg Paulline asked the members to consider the dates for the next Clover Sales fund
raising event. After some discussion it was decided that the weekend of June 23 through the 24th

would be the best time for this event. The members were invited to celebrate TET with the Quad
City Vietnamese community. The celebration will be held this year at the Putnam Museum on
Sunday January 29th. Art Heyderman reminded the group that National Salute to Hospitalized
Veterans is February 13th through the 17th. February 23rd chapter members will serve help
lunch at the Legion Post 26 on 35th Street in Davenport for the one day Homeless Veterans
Stand Down, those assisting should be there by 11:30. Larry Witt reminded the members that we
are again offering two scholarships this year for chapter members and their families. Please go
