September Membership Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 1900 hours by President Paulline with a pledge of allegiance and a
moment of silence observed for POW/MIA and those still serving in harms way for our nation. Officers
present Vice-President Roger Granbois, Treasurer Morel, and Secretary Lavelle. This may be Rogers
last meeting as he is moving to Tennessee. Members went through an introduction period as is our
practice and an attendance sheet was circulated among the members. The minutes of the Augustmeeting were accepted as printed in the August newsletter. Treasurer Morel shared the current financial
status of the chapter with members. We learned that Mike Martin was a patient at Genesis West. Linda
Martin told the members that Mike has had a couple of strokes and will be working to reduce his stress
levels and blood pressure as prescribed by the medical personnel at Genesis. Members were also
informed that Bill Pinault had been air lifted to Iowa City with an unknown infection. A concerned
community member attending the meeting, Brian McDonald inquired if flags could be placed on the
light poles of Bettendorf Veterans Park as well as the placement of new signage that would better
indicate the name of the park. Mr. McDonald was told by Director Woods that the city has control of
that aspect of the park, but the concern would be shared with the members of the Friends of Veterans
Park. Lyle Peterson exhibited the flag commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the War in Vietnam that
the chapter received from the DoD, the chapter will take part in two events over the next few years to
bring community awareness of that commemoration and Lyle is looking for chapter members to serve
on the committee to help plan these events. Lyle also asked for members to be at the Kahl Home in
Davenport at 10:00 A.M. on October 5th to visit with veterans living in the Kahl Home. Ed Gaudet
spoke to the members concerning the finance committee and their efforts to create a budget for the
chapter. The chapters continuing support of the Humility of Mary Homeless Shelters Veteran Program
will continue at $600 each quarter. Tom Lemon will be attending classes related to his work as a Veteran
Service Coordinator and the chapter will make a payment of $400 to assist with that. The State Council
now has a current 501 3C and can now accept cash donations at the State Council Veterans Assistance
Fund of Iowa. There will no longer be credit cards for the state council, the bills for the credit cards
have finally been paid in full. There will be a Health Fair held at the Rock Island Arsenal on the last
Saturday of October and our chapter will have a table there informing veterans of the health risks that
are associated with their time in service. David Woods will lead a committee that will plan a Trivia Night
event for February 7th at the American Legion Post 26. Ed Hildebrand, Marla Brundies, and Ed
Gaudet will assist with that event planning. This years Holiday Party is planned for December 12 at the
American Legion Post 26. The next Honor Flight of the Quad Cities will be October 3rd and there will
be 2 WWII veterans and 90 Korean War Veterans on that flight. The next HyVee sponsored flight will
be on October 31st. Several members had printed the brochures to attract new members and these were
handed out to several key members who would place them in locations where veterans could obtain
them and we will be able to determine if they have any effect on our growth as a chapter. Orange
Clover Sales will be held in Muscatine on Nov 2- 3 and in Clinton on October 19 - 20th and membersare needed to complete this fund raiser, contact Greg Paulline. More members taking part, the better we
do in raising funds for our chapter projects. Members were informed of an informational meeting and a
free dinner at Runge Funeral Home on November 6th. The information will relate to cost for a veterans
funeral. If you intend on attending this dinner you must reserve a spot by calling (563) 391-6202. This is
being held by Dignity Memorial Network. October 5th there is a Fish Fry at the American Legion from
4 until 7, Ed Guadet says that they are fresh caught cat fish fillets there is an $8 donation at the door.
The meeting was adjourned. Minutes submitted by John P. Lavelle, chapter secretary.
