Our goal is to raise $3,000 or more!

J.W. Bathgate published the Badger Blade (It had the edge!) in Rio for F.D. Goodwin who was recovering from a broken hip. August Seaman’s farm was 5 miles north of Cambria. Several men were sawing wood when they noticed his house was on fi re, probably from the sparks of the sawing machine. In a frantic eff ort to save valuables in the house he entered, part of the house collapsed on top of him resulting in his death. A school teacher who boarded there also lost all she had in the fi re. August was about 55 years old and left a wife, 2 sons and a daughter (Mrs. Henry Tonn of Cambria). Earlier that day, the Seaman’s received news that another daughter, who lived in Alabama had died. Mrs. Seaman nearly went insane. Plans for a second bank in Rio, probably would be located on vacant lots owned by C.E. Berg on Lincoln Avenue. Plans for a new county hospital in Wyocena were reported by E.O. Jones of Cambria, O.W. Gorman of Wyocena and Jay Henton of Otsego. In Otsego, Dr. Pease was confi ned to his home for a few days due to illness. In Rio, there had been an epidemic of measles. Geo. Dash had installed gas lights in John Segersons saloon, the Hotel Anna and the Baptist Church. Marriage license were issued to Ole Hanson & Olivia Johnson, both of Otsego and to Leonard Jacobson of Otsego & Marie Benzine of Springvale. In Rock Run, the Dunn boys were sawing wood for their neighbors. In the Circuit Court in Portage, State vs. Harold Van Aernan of Rio. He was charged with mayhem. During a fi st fi ght, he struck Will. Eubank in the eye that resulted in the loss of his sight. In Pardeeville, about 1 AM on Sunday, James Daily was shot in the leg by Village Marshall, Wm. Davis. In Rocky Run, Mabel Ramer, who taught in Leeds was home with a severe case of the measles. In Doylestown, the railroad had drilled a new well, east of the depot, 100 feet deep that with 90 feet of water. A daughter was born to Rev. & Mrs. O.C. Ottesen on March 1st. A son was born to Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Waters of Wyocena. A son was born to Mr. & Mrs. John Crow of Rio and a daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs. Henry Peterson of Wyocena on February 28th. John Garvin of Rio attended Columbus High School and was elected Captain of the baseball team. The grade school in Rio was closed for 2 weeks due to all the illnesses. Don’t forget the horse fair in Rio on Saturday, as 5 buyers from Chicago will be there! Donald Hohlstein

On a hill far away, stood an old rugged Cross. The emblem of suff 'ring and shame. And I love that old Cross where the dearest and best. For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Oh, that old rugged Cross so despised by the world; Has a wondrous attraction for me. For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above. To bear it to dark Calvary.

In the old rugged Cross, stain'd with blood so divine. A wondrous beauty I see; For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above. To pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged Cross, I will ever be true. Its shame and reproach gladly bear. Then He'll call me some day to my home far awayWhere his glory forever I'll share.

So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross. Till my trophies at last I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged Cross. And exchange it some day for a crown.
