When I was young, I used to dream about owning the Club where my father was the professional. Obviously that

Club was Zwartkop and not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that might actually happen. Well it did, and

yesterday was the 19th Anniversary of the Hayes family buying Zwartkop Country Club.

We promised then that it would always remain a Club of members and I believe we have kept that promise.

I hope you agree that we have a happy Club.

The old saying of “you can’t please everybody all of the time” is 100% correct, no matter how hard you try, but we

do have a large percentage of members who are loyal and have been at the Club for 5, 10, 20 years – and even

some who have been here for over 40 and 50 years, so we hope we are doing somethings right.

The last seven months have been very difficult but the pleasure of seeing all the golfers arrive back here after 3

months in lockdown, was terrific.

I would like to thank you all for the way in which you have accepted the “new normal” for golf. On Monday we

opened the Clubhouse again and we are now able to serve food, so we look forward to more golfers staying

around after golf and enjoying the social interaction which we have all been missing.

To all our members we say, Welcome Home!

Club Alliance…Club Alliance…

We have an Alliance with Wingate and Waterkloof which allows you to play at their courses at member’s rates.

Please just remember to follow the Rules when using the Alliance:

• Bookings can only be made by our golf shop staff so contact Joseph, Vusi or Happiness and they will make the

booking on your behalf. Please do not arrive at Wingate or Waterkloof without an advance booking having

being made by our staff!

• Bookings are subject to availability and can only be made one week in advance for games Monday to Friday and

Sunday.

• Bookings for Saturday afternoons can only be made the day before.

Saturday mornings are excluded from the arrangement.

Elsabe Hefer has been the Head Teaching Professional at Zwartkop, since 2001. So, you can be sure that there is no

one more experienced than her when it comes to teaching the game of golf.

She is well respected within the industry and is passionate about what she does.

Over her time at Zwartkop she has built the Junior Academy into a thriving group of youngsters who attend

lessons and play both social and competitive golf. Along with Justin they continue to grow this group and we

couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved.

The face angle of your putter at contact has between 80 and 95% influence on the launch direction of your putt.

That means a tiny error could cause you to slip by the hole, even with great tempo. When the face has such a huge

impact on your putting accuracy, we need to square that face.

Club path also affects accuracy, albeit less than face angle. For instance, if you have a slightly closed face angle

but an in-to-out path, you could still launch the ball straight. Other factors to consider are lie angle and contact

point. There’s a lot going on here, that’s why it’s best to get your putter fitted for your stroke and setup.
