Connellsville E-news JUNE 2018 Stay Fervent in Love 1 Peter 4:8 tells us to: “Above all, stay in fervent love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins.” The word fervent comes from the Latin word fervere, which means "to boil." When we are fervent about something that passion wells up in side of us and boils over to others and our surroundings. Charles Stanley talks about staying fervent in love this way. “Fervent is a work that speaks of intensity and determination. It is an athletic term for stretching to reach the tape. Have you watched the competitors that have run a race? When they come around that last turn and they’re pressing for the tape; they’ll get right to the end and then they will lunge forward. I’ve even seen them fall right there on the track, because they’re pushing to reach the tape ahead of the one they’re competing against. It’s the idea of intensity at the tape, stretching yourself. Those who do the long jump leap into the air and throw their feet forward and they, with intensity, stretch every muscle of their body to reach as far as they can. The same with the high jumpers or with the pole vaulters. They stretch to the uttermost to reach the limit. That’s the word fervent.” I pray that we will stay in fervent love with one another in our churches and in our district. I am looking forward to Conference, and for those that will be attending, and am fervently looking forward to seeing you there and worshiping our Risen Savior Jesus Christ with you. Stay Fervent in Love

1 Peter 4:8 tells us to: “Above all, stay in fervent love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins.”

The word fervent comes from the Latin word fervere, which means "to boil." When we are fervent about something that passion wells up in side of us and boils over to others and our surroundings.

Charles Stanley talks about staying fervent in love this way. “Fervent is a work that speaks of intensity and determination. It is an athletic term for stretching to reach

the tape. That’s the word fervent.”

I pray that we will stay in fervent love with one another in our churches and in our district. I am looking forward to Conference, and for those that will be attending, and am fervently looking forward to seeing you there and worshiping our Risen Savior Jesus Christ with you.

Above all, stay in fervent love for one another…

God Bless,

Pasto Bob

+ APPLYING BOWEN SYSTEMS THEORY TO PASTORAL WORK +Directed by The Rev. Robert C. Spilman, Retired CPE Supervisor

Association for Clinical Pastoral Education

SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP IN MINISTRY - WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA - FEBRUARY TO JUNE 2018

Systems Leadership in Ministry is a pastoral seminar that utilizes Bowen Family Systems Theory and theology to strengthen leadership and self-awareness in any ministry setting with a primary focus on work in the church. The seminar is an outgrowth of the program of Congregation-Based Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) that Rev. Spilman directed in Western NY and PA until his retirement in 2017.Pastors and lay ministers strengthen their pastoral and leadership skills, address conflict in the church, and work on their personal growth in ministry. The program focuses on systemic change and leadership development in the church.

Seminar in Western PA – Location to Be Determined – Two Days a Month - Late February to Late June – 2018Tuition cost: $700 ($550 for CPE program alumni)

Systems Leadership in Ministry includes these creative components:Emphasis on pastoral and leadership issues and use of self in ministry.

Family of origin work, consultation on ministry, and theological reflection.Application of Bowen Theory to ministry in the church and world.

Participants explore family and church relational patterns using the systems theory developed by Murray Bowen and applied to church life by Edwin Friedman and Roberta Gilbert. They reflect on their family of origin and its impact on their use of self in ministry. They work to manage anxiety and grow in “defining a self.” A primary text will be Roberta Gilbert’s book: Extraordinary Leadership. For further information and application, contact Rev. Spilman.
