Primary Focus Day
The Moorland Classroom
Exmoor National Park
Friday 23rd November 2012
The Moorland Classroom is a project to provide unforgettable learning experiences both in the classroom and on Exmoor National Park. The day will enable primary colleagues to:
Get the best out of this new, innovative online resource
Participate in lively and engaging workshops on how to deliver the new Moorland Classroom activities to pupils
Access free 2013 professional development opportunities linked to the project
Receive information on how to access travel funding for school visits
Discover how to access our Prehistory loan box scheme
Meet an Exmoor Pony and learn from an expert about this very special animal
Enjoy a lovely Exmoor lunch and refreshments (all in the price!)
We have created a new suite of online teaching materials - specifically designed for educators to support both classroom and outdoor learning at locations across Exmoor National Park. These resources use cross-curricular, question-led enquiries that are accessible to the full age range of pupils in primary schools. Each examines key themes, such as the moorland heritage, landscapes, and wildlife and why Exmoor National Park is such a special place.
The new resources will fit the new National Curriculum as it emerges. Activities will also ensure appropriate progression and challenge for pupils at different ages and stages, and provide meaningful opportunities to apply ICT and thinking skills.
Contributors include:
David Gurnett, Education Manager, Exmoor National Park Authority
David Rolls, Moorland Education and Outreach Officer
Faye Balmond, Moorland Heritage Officer
David Weatherly, Curriculum Advisor
To book a place, please complete the form overleaf and return by 7th November 2012. Please note - places are limited for this event.
(The Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership Scheme is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and our local partners and funders.Part financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development 2007-2013: Europe investing in rural areas. )
