DIFFERENT BY DESIGNTHE NEUMONT ALGORITHM:

The nation’s need for technology professionals is growing

exponentially, and traditional colleges can’t meet that

demand. Many university computer science programs

focus on outdated theories, with only a nod to their

relevant application. Often, they use a lecture format

that doesn’t provide adequate opportunities to develop

the applied technical, project, and team skills needed to

successfully transition from college to industry.

Recognizing this shortfall, Neumont’s founders met

with educators and industry leaders from across the

country to design a curriculum that merges academic

rigor, relevant professional knowledge, and exposure

to cutting-edge technologies. Our students learn

through an active project-based curriculum designed

around a series of problem-solving challenges.

The result: An academic approach that unites business, technology, and creativity to educate tomorrow’s tech elite. Neumont takes an innovative

approach to education, one which has been recognized by the Department of Education for “Charting the Course of U.S. Higher Education.”FIND OUT MORE ABOUT OUR

WELCOME TO NEUMONT!

You’ll start with a week-long

orientation that gets you ready to

succeed. This is accompanied by all

kinds of geek-focused activities to

help you get acclimated and make

new friends.

All freshmen start in the computer

science program, where you take

general courses, including intro

courses in each of the five degree

programs. At the end, you’re ready

to declare your major.

PROJECTS, RIGHT OFF THE BAT

You’ll be introduced to project team methodologies and

work on Intro Projects, which are

individual or small

group learning

assignments that

happen in nearly

every class.

DIVE INTO YOUR PROGRAM

You’ve chosen your degree program, so now you’re taking core

courses like Principles of Software Engineering, Modeling, Artificial

Intelligence, Java, and Databases. You are deeply submerged in tech.

GENERAL EDUCATION — WITH A TWIST

Gen Ed (yawn) has a bland reputation,

but it doesn’t have to. In addition to

standard Gen Eds like English, Math,

Physics, and Problem-Solving, we

offer geek-centric electives like

The Imagination of Horror in

Media, 3D Printing, and

Science Fiction Through

Literature.

PROJECT INTENSITY++

Foundational Projects

ramp up the intensity as

you tackle small-scale

projects in labs that

are paired with core

technology courses.

At Neumont University, our academic model is simple: Learn to master technology in a project-based environment. In the tech industry,

nearly all software is developed in a team, so you’ll learn how to fill different roles, meet deadlines, manage requirements, and resolve

conflicts. Our three-year curriculum is optimized to get you fully prepared for the job market. Here’s a bird’s-eye view of what to expect.

GO DEEPER

You are now taking upper-level courses like Algorithms and

Data Structures, Computer Graphics, Game Programming

and Production, Virtual Systems, Advanced Game Physics,

and Dynamic Web Programming.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS

Projects are now integrated into virtually every course you

take, which means you’ll be building complex web interfaces,

3D games, or network security modules as homework. Think

of it this way: You’re now defining and solving problems

using technology – with all of those eureka moments. While

a faculty member will mentor you and your team through

problems, don’t expect to be handed a solution. You’ve got the

skills to come up with your own way to solve it.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

Finish up with a Capstone Project, which is a

required individual project that you conceive,

build, and present. It’s where you get to show

off all you’ve learned, and prove you’re ready

to take on Enterprise Projects in your last

three quarters.

PREPARE FOR LAUNCH

You’ve mastered technologies like game

engine development, C++, Java, C#, relational

databases, virtualization, UX, AI, ethical hacking,

Javascript, 3D modeling, agile methodologies...

Phew! Master Chief status achieved.

ENTERPRISE PROJECTS

During your last three quarters, you’ll spend most of your time

working on Enterprise Projects, where student teams work

on a real-world tech project with an employer under the supervision

of a faculty member. Think of it as a senior project on steroids.

WRAP IT UP AND PUT A BOW ON IT

Now that you’ve got the skills and experience, it’s time to write a

killer résumé, finalize your portfolio, and learn how to interview and

negotiate the salary you deserve. You won’t do this on your own. You’ll

learn it in a course taught by dedicated Career Services faculty – just

one of the many reasons you’ll probably have a job before you’ve

even graduated.

At Neumont University, we’re all about hands-on learning through project-

based courses where students and faculty collaborate with companies like

Nike, IBM, and Bosch to create solutions for their software needs.

Yes, a company like IBM may use Neumont student projects in their day-

to-day operations, which sounds pretty good in a job interview. Trust us.

Enterprise Projects are the proving ground where you’ll implement everything

you’ve learned and build a portfolio packed with projects for real companies.

These companies sponsor projects throughout the year, help develop our

curriculum, and attend Career Week events every quarter.

If you’re going to succeed in the tech industry, you must know how to learn.

And, that’s what Neumont’s project-based curriculum teaches you.

The project opportunities at Neumont are constantly evolving.

Here are just a few of the projects students have completed with

Enterprise Partners.

Overstock challenged Neumont students to update their website. The Enterprise Project required the students to integrate recently acquired international online retailers into its existing Overstock brand, website, and data structure. This included testing, debugging, and automation. Students worked primarily in Java, Linux, HTML, and CSS to create a streamlined and fully integrated database and website for the online retailer.

ENTERPRISE PARTNER: OVERSTOCK PROJECT: INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATION

PROJECTSTEAM-BASED, REAL-WORLD

ENTERPRISE PARTNER: SPILLMAN TECHNOLOGIES PROJECT: SPILLMAN TOUCHSpillman Technologies, a leader in safety industry software solutions, engaged Neumont students to build the Spillman Touch. Neumont students developed this application, which runs on Java EE, to support the use of touch-enabled mobile iOS and Android devices. It provides law enforcement and emergency responders with access to critical databases at the scene where traditional devices aren’t practical.

THE BEST WAY TO LEARN TO CODE IS TO CODE.

ENTERPRISE PARTNER: REACT GAMES PROJECT: SUPER DUNGEON BROS

Students helped develop the video game Super Dungeon Bros. It’s a cross platform, rock themed, co-op dungeon brawler with a band of mighty rock bros who navigate the medieval fantasy realm of Rökheim. Working with Visual Studio, Unity, Ruby, C#, and Java (to name a few technologies), they developed back-end systems for gameplay, created levels, and implemented new features. The team worked together on the project helping each other along as they were mentored by the React developers. Now, a few of our grads work there full-time. The general education ultra marathon continues. A few intro CS classes turn out to be droning reminiscences of the glory days of telephone modems, cassette tape storage, and Cobol.

It’s been a blur. You’re up to your eyeballs in tech. You’ve started courses like Java, Object Oriented Programming, Intro to CS, Databases, and C++ Programming.

Your freshman year is complete. Your courses up to this point have been focused on uncovering your talents so you can choose the best major. Your major officially starts here.

You’re mastering current technologies and tackling advanced topics and projects (senior level courses in most colleges). Intensity picks up.

Massive campus, hordes of students, giant lecture halls, long lectures, and busy work. High school super-sized. Traditional colleges aren’t able to

be as focused as Neumont. Often their sheer size limits their ability to adapt quickly and stay relevant. The result is wasted time and outdated curriculum.

Hit the ground running— in every sense of the word. Expect a full-time stimulating schedule with courses that are focused on computer science.

Neumont is focused on one thing: Technology. There’s no football team,

no fraternity pranks, and certainly no cheerleaders. Our programs are

distraction-free, compressed, cutting-edge, and built for speed. Neumont is a

fully-accredited1 university offering bachelor’s degrees, which can be completed

in just three years. Compared to traditional universities, this is geek heaven.
