Juno, a Korean-American boy, cannot read the letter he receives from his grandmother in Seoul, but as he opens the envelope and finds a picture and a dried flower, he intuitively understands what the words must have meant. He decides to send her the biggest leaf he could find in his yard, and he sends her a collection of drawings.
Drawings don’t include a lot of details in the face-tends to adhere to the stereotype of all Asians look the same and have small eyes, some might find offensive. Great story for how to understand without being able to read, relatable for preschoolers.

Oil paintings give children exposure to a new type of illustrations. Great representation of all parts of France with a story that makes you wonder where the cat will end up.

Unique way of formatting the text and illustrations. Some pages have the words take up every inch, or only one tiny picture on an otherwise blank page. One of my favorite stories form this reading record.
