Kumashiro analyzes education through the lens of “teaching for social justice”. In his work, one will find implications that our educational system faces everyday, yet, faintly providing
solutions for educators to overcome the complications and diversifications that take place in our classrooms. I will let my mint plant represent my insight into the messages I have gathered
from Kumashiro. The mint plant is refreshing, delicate and robust. Visually, it is a mess and is hard to sort; it represents a crisis. The vines and leaves are scattered and the plant stretches in all directions; it is diverse and complex. However, it comes together to a central base within the soil. It grows like a weed, but is a useful herb in the culinary world making it “queer”. Attached
to the picture are key words that caught my attention as I read his work.
