LOTTERYWEST FILMS 2017/2018Perhaps we invented storytelling to relax, to take a break from the stresses of the hunter-gatherer life. Or perhaps it was because sharing in an experience outside of ourselves helps to bring us together. As our stories became more sophisticated, the best storytellers, and the best stories, became famous.

Whether it was 60,000 years ago or right here and now, storytelling makes us feel emotion. How does it feel to be the best in the world at something (Borg vs McEnroe), to make art for everybody (Faces Places,The Square), to be in love (Aurore, God’s Own Country), to be a total stranger in town (The Other Side of Hope, Thelma), to be desperate(Good Time, The Party), to make your passion your way of life (Back toBurgundy, Pecking Order) or to live in the world’s best building (Living Architectures)?

That’s a lot of feelings and we need a meeting place to make the best of them. Whatever the film and whatever the emotion, our two open-air pine grove cinemas are the very best environments at which to meet and dream.

This is the best of the year’s film from around the world and I hope that by showing these 11 films – with more to be announced in January – we can meet as we always have to share stories and the feelings they give us.
