Terry Senne (tsenne) (12/13/17 10:59 am): For SLO 3, add a generic indicator of expected quality of student

performance. And, consider using a higher level action verb in this same SLO.

Justification forAddition orChange:

The addition of this course is in response to increased numbers of non-COMS students seeking to take coursework in American Sign Language. This course allows students not planning a career in deaf education to continue in the study of ASL. Non-COMS students who have been enrolling in COMS 4663 will be enrolling in sections of this new course reducing the number of COMS 4663 sections. No additional faculty teaching load will be incurred.

Justification forAddition orChange:

This additional course is needed to accurately distinguish students who are indirectly supervised by TWU faculty at external sites from students supervised in on-site clinical laboratories. This aligns the practicum workload with teaching work unit equivalencies based on THECB codes. This does not add an additional course for students to take or for faculty to teach. Students may register for this course instead of COMS 5413 during semesters 2-5 of their program.

Additionalinformation:

Students are required to meet 7 different competencies for assessment and 7 different competencies for treatment across their program, as well as demonstrate professional behaviors, in addition to providing services across the lifespan and in different settings. These competencies and behaviors are proscribed by our accrediting body. Students will demonstrate some competencies in a given semester but will not meet all. We understand the rationale to use Bloom's action words in the SLOs but do not wish to have 20 or so SLOs for each practicum course. We appreciate advice on how we could meet the SLO requirements with this course.

Scott Martin (smartin4) (11/27/17 3:47 pm): Currently coded as a laboratory.

Erika Armstrong (earmstrong) (11/29/17 2:49 pm): This course is currently correctly coded as a Code 2

"lab" as faculty directly supervise a group of students in a clinical setting.

Jennifer Martin (jmartin) (12/05/17 10:08 am): Should this course include a laboratory fee since it is

laboratory instruction?

Jennifer Martin (jmartin) (01/02/18 11:26 am): To Reviewers: Although the description indicates "Clinical"

hours, the THECB code for this onsite TWU environment is correct as a "Laboratory." The term "Clinical" is

necessary to meet accreditation standards.

Scott Martin (smartin4) (01/09/18 4:26 pm): Rollback: Per request.

Erika Armstrong (earmstrong) (01/16/18 3:00 pm): Added $15 lab fee to cover assessment protocols and

other consumables such as gloves, tongue depressors, etc. used in this clinical laboratory experience.

Justification forAddition orChange:

This updated course is needed to accurately distinguish workload between students who are directly and indirectly supervised by TWU faculty. (A new course is being added for indirect supervision.) This aligns the practicum workload with teaching work unit equivalencies based on THECB codes. This does not add an additional course for students to take or for faculty to teach. Students may register for this course during semesters 1-4 of their program.

Scott Martin (smartin4) (11/29/17 5:39 pm): Course Requirements are defined as: List the major

assignments and activities that are required to complete the course. They appear to be SLOs currently.

Scott Martin (smartin4) (11/29/17 5:40 pm): Most/All SLOs missing "Criterion/criteria" (defines the minimum

acceptable level of performance). The focus is on the expected “quality of performance”. The criterion/criteria

can be specific or qualitative (using generic quality indicators of performance such as, critically, accurately,

appropriately, concisely, etc.)

Scott Martin (smartin4) (11/29/17 5:40 pm): No course noted for deactivation, justification needs to include

how AC will fit the additional workload of a new course into the limited teaching resources of AC.

Terry Senne (tsenne) (12/15/17 10:03 am): Revise course SLOs based on comments in SLOs section. Refer

to the Guidelines for Well-written SLOs document (attached) when revising SLOs.

Scott Martin (smartin4) (01/09/18 1:26 pm): Rollback: per request

Scott Martin (smartin4) (12/04/17 9:11 am): "Internet Instruction" removed from course description. This is a

delivery method and determined with University Scheduling each semester.

Scott Martin (smartin4) (12/04/17 9:12 am): No course noted for deactivation, justification needs to include

how AC will fit the additional workload of a new course into the limited teaching resources of AC.

Carolyn Kapinus (ckapinus) (12/11/17 9:53 am): I'd like to see more detail in the course justification.

Terry Senne (tsenne) (12/15/17 10:55 am): Make revisions to the course SLOs based on comments

provided in the SLOs section.

Justification forAddition orChange:

program revision, updating the curriculum

This course is a new addition to the bridge program from the BS in DH to the MS in Health Studies. The course has been added at the recommendation of the DH and HS faculty to provide a more in-depth researched focused course in which students will engage in the research conceptualization and design process. Upon curriculum review for this specialized area, it was determined that a stronger focus on research was needed to more directly align with graduate work. The course is necessary to improve the rigor and strength of the specialization.

This course has historically been taught for the last three Spring semesters by DH faculty as a special topics course in HS. Thus, it will not result in an increased workload or a challenge to departmental resources.

This course is needed in order to adequately prepare nutrition/dietetic interns for clinical rotations in pediatrics and to prepare them to care for children as practicing Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. It is essential that current dietetic interns obtain this knowledge in order to be ready to practice in pediatrics upon completion of their program of study. This course would also be very useful for current Registered Dietitian Nutritionists seeking a Master's degree and additional training or updating in pediatric practice standards. The information provided in this course is not duplicated anywhere else in the nutrition curriculum. It has already been taught as a "special topics" course (NFS 5931) in Spring 2017. The enrollment in Spring 2017 was 24 students. There is a plan in place to make it a required course for all TWU dietetic interns. The nutrition faculty member teaching this course is new faculty as of 2016 and has begun teaching the course. It is part of this person's required workload responsibilities.

Additionalinformation:

This course is an advanced practice course. However, because students taking the course will have advanced knowledge in medical nutrition therapy but will have only intermediate prerequisite knowledge in pediatric growth and development and disease states, there will be some introductory content in this advanced course. The introductory content will be confined largely to the first week of class and to the beginning of units discussing diseases or conditions that are uncommon in adults or in which the etiology and pathophysiology differ from adults.

The textbook is out of date in places but has not been updated. Multiple journal readings and a supplementary manual called the Pediatric Nutrition Handbook and Formulary (22nd edition, 2017 and updated about every 2 years-Children's Health) will also be required.

Course Title:

Mentored Professional Development IV

Short Title: MENTORED PROF DEVELOPMENT IV 1 characters remaining

CatalogDescription:

Completion of activities indicated in professional development plan, with documentation of progress and reflection upon the process, including completion of doctoral capstone project. May be repeated for credit. Credit: Three hours.

169 words remaining

May be repeated for additional credit: Yes No

Semester Credit Hours: 3

Justification forAddition orChange:

To avoid a required independent study in Summer sessions, the 3 course mentored professional development series was expanded to 4 courses, with the middle course being divided into 2 parts. Thus, what was #3 (III) is now #4 (IV). We also realized that if a student was unable to complete the project, they need to be able to re-enroll in the course, so we wish to make this course able to repeat for credit.
