We have been interviewing nursery children and asking questions. We asked Mrs Allan “What is your topic?” and she told us it was Space. When we visited nursery they were making rockets and spacemen. We saw them

Nursery in Space! 13th – 17th November 2017 was Anti-Bullying Week across the UK. Craig and Rossi, went to find out about the activities and discussions that had happened in each class. In P1 they talked about being kind to others and watched the story Giraffes Can’t Dance, whilst P2 talked about what the definition of bullying was and thought through scenarios deciding if it was bullying or not - a tricky choice! Harris in P3 was especially proud of his poster and in P4 Mrs Wragg told us about the stories they shared and showed us the drawings to show everyones thinking. Respect was the focus in P5 and they wrote positive acrostic poems whilst in P6 Miss Niven explained that they had lots of class discussions and made posters to explore their thinking – great work everyone!

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK AT EAST CRAIGS PRIMARY

Primary 7 explored all the different types of bullying such as physical, verbal and cyber bullying and the signs and the effects it can have on people. Craig told the team they then created a kindness display featuring inspirational quotes, many unique to the pupils, which is displayed in the P7 area – come and have a look!

The team wanted to know what trips were happening with topics in other classrooms – we are very nosey! So with notepads and pens off we went to find out……..

TRIPS AROUND THE SCHOOL

playing with moonrockets and aliens too! We met Murdo who was painting and drawing then we found Harley, he was showing us how to make phonecalls! Neil was drawing and playing in the kitchen. We loved visiting nursery and they are loving their topic, we will be back soon!

The Power of Kindness from P7

Primary 1 loved their trip to Edinburgh Zoo to learn all about penguins. Mrs May said, “We really enjoyed seeing them swim”, and she would definitely recommend the trip to other classes. Alisha in P1A said she would recommend it too because she had lots of fun although Frankie and Alice in P1B preferred the rhinos and especially loved having no schoolwork!

OFF TO THE PENGUINS FOR P1

PRIMARY 4 MEET A MUMMY!

From abseiling to rock climbing, mountain biking to archery and everything in between, Primary 7 loved their trip to Lagganlia.

We asked Craig in our newspaper team who said, “I had the most amazing time.”P7 also met new friends from Fox Covert!

SCHOOL CAMP AT LAGGANLIA FOR PRIMARY 7

The weather was fantastic as Primary 7 tried their hand at everything, even the nightline! We hope the current P6 can’t wait to go because they thought it was brilliant!

We asked Mrs Wragg all about her class trip to the museum. She told us their topic is Ancient Egypt and so she thought it was a very interesting trip for her class – especially the part when they saw a real Mummy! Arran in P4A said he learnt lots of facts and Nathan from P4A said his favourite part was seeing a real coffin. Sounds a great trip – thanks for answering our questions.

Manaswini and Rachel went off the find out about our chosen Movie of the Month, Paddington 2.

We went to find members of the team who recently went to the Primary Schools Athletics tournament at Meadowbank. First, we found Torin from P6B who told us his favourite event was the running but that he was disappointed Team EC didn’t win. Another boy, Callum in P7A, was also picked for the team and so we asked him how he had been chosen. He told us, “I did a try-out with Mr Cheung and then I was picked!” We asked him how he felt and he replied with “Pretty excited but I wasn’t going crazy although it was my first time being selected.” Finally, we met Mrs Cann who accompanied the team and she explained that there were 14 other competing schools

in different events such as the long jump and triple jump as well as running races. Mrs Cann said, ”I was proud of Team EC as they put everything into the competition". Finally we asked her, ”Do you enjoy going on school trips?” and she explained yes, she is very proud of all the children at East Craigs, their behaviour is always brilliant. Well done the athletics team, sounds like you did us proud!

Then we met Calum from P5A and asked him:Did you enjoy Paddington 2?Yes, especially when Paddington washed the windows! What was the best part? When he washed the windows – but with his bottom! Was that the funniest moment? It was also funny when he got his foot stuck in the plant pot

So, definitely watch it if you haven’t already seen it!

We interviewed Matthew Byrne (P2) first and asked him what he thought:Did you enjoy Paddington 2? Yes, especially when Paddington rode the dog! What was the best part? When the prison guards started singingAny funny moments? When Paddington cleaned the windowWould you recommend the film and why?Yes because it is funny and it has a happy ending and it is a great family film, I would give it 5 stars!

We have been asking around the school to find out what topics some of the classes were doing and everyone has been very busy!

We interviewed Mrs Johal P2A and her topic was The Picts. They learned about timelines, language, art and even tattoos, the Picts influence sounds lot of fun. Mrs Johal said the best thing she liked was learning about Picts tattoos. Billy Young in her class told us, ”we did a time line for the Ice Age and I loved drawing everything.” We also interviewed Alex and Oliver who told us how much they enjoyed their topic.

Then we interviwed Mrs Donaldson P5A and her topic was Scotland vs France and Germany and she told us that they were learning all about the culture and the physical features. She has really enjoyed finding places on the maps with the children. We found Maggie Wilkinson from the class and she said her favourite thing was maps too! They have also been working hard learning foreign traditions and phrases at Christmas time.

Lastly we went to interview P7 and found Mrs Cormack. She told us they have been learning about World War 2. Both classes have been learning through poetry, story writing and drama and are loving their topic. Mrs Cormack said her highlight so far has been all the effort the children made to make their own Air Raid Shelters at home! Have a look at some of the Shelters we photographed. They are really proud of their poems, in particular all about how they might have felt when WW2 started. It was great to see what was going on in their classroom.

The Newspaper team could not have a paper without some jokes! These are the best (in our opinion!)
