Introduction

The ViewLux® is the gold standard, ultra high-speed microplate imager, ideal for high throughput screening of compound libraries requiring the ultimate in speed, reliability and high quality data.

In fact, over 150 ViewLux systems have been installed in all major pharmaceutical and many biotech companies worldwide.

The ViewLux system features telecentric lens technology which maximizes light collection from the sample plate and increases sensitivity while decreasing parallax error that can result from wells being at different distances from the lens.

Because the ViewLux imager generates both image and numerical data, it provides users with additional insight into their biology.

The ViewLux imager now features the next generation of low-maintenance Peltier-cooled, CCD camera technology that eliminates the need for a cryogenic cooling system. The camera is designed for more sensitive detection, maximum reliability and easy maintenance.

Key Features

• Unrivalledthroughputofupto200,000samplesperhourundercontinuous operation

• Nextgeneration,low-maintenance,Peltier-cooled CCD camera

• Supports5keynon-radiometrictechnologiesand a wide variety of radiometric assay types

• Roboticloadingand/orplatestackeroptions

Standard camera lens

Telecentric lens

A telecentric lens has no parallax error and no loss of photons due to geometry and wall shading.

The ViewLux imager provides similar performance to a PMT based reader (A), and its imaging capability delivers additional visual data (B) for assay development applications.

Latest generation camera system

• Fast cooling with easy switch off when not in use – ready to use in 30 minutes after restart

• Compact – no separate camera controller, the cooling system is integrated into the instrument

• Easy maintenance – no vacuum pumping, no heated tubes

• Lower background than ever before – more sensitive detection limit

• Comparable in performance to previous generations of ViewLux readers for maximum confidence and transfer-ability

Radiometric capability

The ViewLux uHTS Microplate Imager can also read a variety of homogeneous radiometric assays such as Scintillation Proximity Assays (with red-shifted SPA beads), Image FlashPlates™, ADME Tox and environmental FATE analysis of HPLC fractions in LumaPlates™.

Work the same way with all assay types

The ViewLux imager can read all commonly used non-radio-metric labels. To change from one technology to another, simply place the appropriate barcode on the microplate and the ViewLux system will read it, whether it is on the long or short edge of the plate. With the one imaging platform you can work in the same way with all your labels and assay types, reducing learning curves, saving space and maximizing the use of robotic automation systems.

A ViewLux system designed for the way you work

A modular design means that the ViewLux imager can keep up with changes in your application or workflow without major reinvestment.

Options include:

• Single or double 32-shelf stacker

• External platform for robotic loading

• Combination 32-shelf stacker and external platform for robotic loading

Choose the best detection for your assay

The system performs luminescence, fluorescence, time-resolved fluorescence, absorbance and fluorescence polarization which makes it perfectly suited to a wide variety of today’s fastest non-radioactive and radioactive assay technologies. The system shows excellent correlation between results from 384- and 1536-well plates, allowing easy assay miniaturization, and with the ability to read a 1536-well plate in 30 seconds, the system can manage throughputs in excess of 200,000 samples per hour under continuous operation. The ViewLux imager can also handle plates in a 3456-well format.

Dual luminescence

The ViewLux uHTS Microplate Imager excels in high throughput, dual luminescence experiments, particularly those requiring only a single reagent such as Chroma-Luc™ (Promega Corporation). Its CCD camera design delivers simultaneous measurement of 1536 wells at each wave-length, so avoiding the signal decay associated with PMT based readers due to measurement time across the plate.

The 3 graphs above show the close correlation in performance between 384- and 1536-well for TRF, luminescence and fluorescence technologies on the ViewLux imager, allowing confident assay miniaturization.

Reading time with the ViewLux imager: 4 mins/384-well plate.

Reading time with the TopCount system: 6 hrs/384-well plate.

CASE STUDY: ViewLux Imager vs TopCount for 14C Radioisotope Detection in Biological SamplesAn example of how a lower throughput application can be improved using the ViewLux system is shown above. The TopCount™ plate-based scintillation counter is commonly used to generate a chromatogram from HPLC fractions of separated metabolites. While highly sensitive in comparison to the usual method of radio-HPLC detection, the read time in this case is 6 hours. Using the ViewLux imager, the same result is achieved in 4 minutes with minimal loss of signal to background.
