2. Instruction

a) Existing Courses Taught

VPAT 5400. Anatomic Pathology Rotation. I served as course co-coordinator with Dr. Holly Brown for VPAT 5400 from 2010 to the Fall of 2013. VPAT 5400 is offered year round and is a core (required) rotation for all senior veterinary students. This course has undergone significant restructuring during the time I have been coordinator, and the renovations for this course are ongoing.

FYOS 1011 (Fall 2012). First Year Odyssey Seminar. One Credit hour Freshman Seminar entitled “Anthropogenic Environmental Change and Infectious Disease Emergence”

VPAT 8100. Microscopic Pathology (Fall 2009, Fall 2010, Fall 2011, Fall 2012, Fall 2013). I taught 2 lectures in the basic electron microscopy features of various cell types and cell structures. I taught an additional (third) lecture in the Fall of 2010 and 2013 on Immunohistochemistry. I renovated existing teaching materials and developed new material for the electron microscopy section and developed new teaching materials for the immunohistochemistry section of this course.

VPAT 8130. Diagnostic Oncology (Summer Semester 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013). I have taught the gastrointestinal pathology section of Diagnostic Oncology (2009, 2010, 2011), and a novel section of the course, tumors of wildlife and exotic animals (2011, 2012, 2013). My participation in this course included two lectures on tumors of the gastrointestinal system and two lectures on tumors of wildlife and exotic animals. I developed new instructional materials for tumors of wildlife and zoo animals and also

updated the notes for the gastrointestinal pathology section of this course. I continue to work on adding new teaching materials to the sections of this course that I teach. The notes are updated yearly.

VPAT5401. Anatomic pathology clerkship (2009-present). I participate in teaching veterinary students in the elective pathology clinical rotation, and review biopsy and necropsy cases with these students.

VPAT5301. Studies in Diagnostic Pathology (2009-present). I participate in this junior elective on clinical and anatomic pathology diagnostics.

VPAT5401. Diagnostic Pathology Clerkship (2009-present). I participate in the diagnostic pathology clerkship reviewing biopsies and necropsies with senior vet students.

Diagnostic Pathology Service Duty. I am on three pathology services: Biopsy/Mail-in, Necropsy, and the Zoo and Exotic Animal Pathology Services. Current service for FY 15 is 9 weeks of duty, 17 weeks of duty in FY14, 24 weeks per year in FY 2013, 21 weeks per year in FY12, FY11, and 19 weeks in FY10. 13 All service duties have a heavy teaching component integrated with them, because we work with veterinary pathology residents and students on the cases. Below is a table demonstrating most of my case load, based on a search of UVIS. Case numbers may be slightly inaccurate due to UVIS search criteria. I have finalized a total of 1948 cases since July 2009. The below table summarizes case numbers.
