Scholarships:

Prince William Chamber Scholarship Program

We seek to support higher education by awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to both academic success and community involvement. Three (3) scholarships in amounts of up to $2,500 each will be awarded during our annual Education & Innovation Breakfast taking place this year on April 27, 2018 from 8:30am-10:00am (location TBD).

We are seeking qualified high school student applicants.

American Disposal Services, Inc., Scholarship

This one-time $2500 scholarship will be provided to a Prince William County Public School high school senior who is making a significant impact on their homes, communities, or schools to positively affect change in the environment. To obtain an application please see Mrs. Juba in the college and career center.

Finalists will be determined by the FPHS scholarship committee and submitted to the American Disposal Services for review. American Disposal Services will select its recipient from this pool of finalists.

LIMITATIONS • Graduating PWCS High School Senior. • US Citizen or permanent resident. • Must have participated in ONE of the following: - Completed an Environmental Science class at any high school level. - Joined an environmentally-focused group or committee at school or in the community. • Must have a 2.8 or higher. • Applicable to in-state or out-of-state tuition. American Legion Legacy Scholarship:

1. High school senior or high school graduate.

2. Applicant shall be the child or legally adopted child, or a child of a spouse by a prior marriage, or dependent child as defined by the U.S. Armed Services of active duty U.S. military and National Guard, and military reservists who were federalized and died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001.

Samsung Scholarship:

1. High school Juniors who completed a Boys State or Girls State program and are a direct descendant—i.e. child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc.—or legally adopted child of a wartime veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for American Legion membership.

Past President’s Parley Medical Scholarship:

Matthew Loren Peters Memorial Scholarship

1. Applicants must be a current member of (or the Son, Grandson, Daughter, or Granddaughter, etc. of a current or deceased member of) American Legion Post 364, Auxiliary Unit 364, or Squadron 364.

2. Rank in the upper ½ of high school graduating class, preferably in the upper 1/4th.

3. Have a record of performance in activities both in school and in the community.

4. Have a sound interest and positive attitude towards college work.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a deserving high school graduate who intends to continue his or her higher education studies in Environmental Sciences or a related field of study. The IWLA scholarship, in the amount of $20,000, will be paid in equal installments over a four- year period. Federal Water Quality Association (FWQA) Scholarship:

Three Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each are planned to be awarded in 2018 to encourage young people to prepare for careers in environmental protection by supporting studies leading to a bachelor's degree in applicable sciences or engineering.

Freeze Bullying Scholarship Application:

Eligibility Criteria:

Attend a high school in Prince William County, Virginia. A minimum of one (1), $1,000 scholarship will be given to each high school that submits at least (1) eligible applicant.

Must be a current high school senior, who intends to pursue studies at a higher learning institute. Submit a video (less than 5 minutes) or a written essay (not to exceed 2 pages, 12 pt., single spaced) that

identifies and discusses the applicants' efforts and actions to directly combat bullying in their school/community or identifies and discusses how the applicant has been a victim of bullying and persevered.

Obtain a written recommendation from a member of the faculty or staff at the school in which he or she enrolled.

The Beauty + Wellness Scholarship for Women

Our scholarship is called The Beauty + Wellness Scholarship for Women and each quarter we award $1,000 + a care package filled with healthy organic goodies to young women who are striving to maintain their health and wellness as they pursue their higher education goals.

The Esperanza Education Scholarship Fund

It will award scholarships of at least $5,000 and up to $20,000 to immigrant students in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia to attend public colleges and universities, regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be born outside the United States or have two parents born outside the United States. Must be a graduating senior at a high school in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia. Must enroll full-time at an accredited public college or university in 2017-2018. Must have had a family income of under $100,000 in 2017

Scholarship Conditions

Scholarships will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s educational institution. Failure to comply with the following conditions may result in the suspension or revocation of scholarship awards.

Remain in good standing and maintain a 2.5 grade point average. Submit yearly progress reports to the Esperanza Education Fund. Lighthouse Guild- Scholarships for Students Who Are Visually Impaired

We exclusively use an online application system. Using a drop-down box, applicants will select either the Schwallie Family Scholarship or the Lisa Higgins Hussman Scholarship. Our scholarship application contains basic contact information, date of diagnosis, proof of enrollment, and three short essay questions. Students are expected to complete the applications on their own.

In the case of applicants for the Lisa Higgins Hussman Scholarship whose written communications skills may be more limited, we require two letters of recommendation. The first letter of recommendation must come from a teacher, counselor, coach, or other non-relative. The second letter must come from a parent or guardian in the form of a personal letter of support.

For Schwallie Family Scholarship applicants, one letter of recommendation may be submitted if the applicant chooses to do so.

This is a highly competitive program. Each year, we receive 400-500 applications for up to 40 available scholarships. We encourage any interested person to apply. At the same time, we caution anyone submitting an application against incorporating this scholarship into any financial plans for post-secondary education until notified of selection.

Rotary Scholarship:

They are offering a $2000 scholarship to a graduating High School student. Please have the students pay close attention to the criteria. Our scholarship is not based on academics, but the student must have a strong desire to continue their education and they would not be able to do so without financial assistance. The scholarship can be used for NOVA, any 4-year program, trade school or certification and moneys will be sent directly in their name to the school of their choice. On line schools are also included as long as the money is used for furthering education.

They are offering a scholarship to high school seniors who are planning to enter a full-time course of study leading to a degree in the medical health related field. The scholarship is a one-time, indirect cash award. The recipient's choice of college or university will receive the payment upon verification of registration and acceptance from the approved institution of study.

The Franklin Dunlap Memorial Scholarship The Pi Lambda Lambda (PLL) Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated

This scholarship is specifically designated for African American males that will graduate in the spring of 2018 from public high schools in Prince William County, Stafford County, Manassas, and Manassas Park.

This year we will award a total of $15,000 in scholarships to students that will attend 4-year colleges/universities and 2-year junior/community colleges in the fall of 2018. The 1st place winner in the 4-year college/university category will receive scholarship awards of $3,000 in both 2018 and 2019. Other awards will be dispersed one time only in 2018 in both the 4 and 2-year college categories. The amounts of these remaining awards will range from $2,500 to $1,000.

The scholarship program was established to provide young people across the Commonwealth of Virginia with financial assistance in their pursuit of an educational curriculum in the criminal justice field. This program is limited to students attending Virginia colleges and universities, majoring in criminal justice. (Those majoring in law or pursuing a career as a lawyer will not be considered a criminal justice major.)

Virginia State University Alumni Association (VSUAA) Northern Virginia Chapter's 2018 Scholarship

The application is now available for high school students who plan to attend VSU. Students must be a resident of Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Loudoun, or Prince William County to apply. The Rich Murray Journalism Scholarship is presented annually to a graduating Virginia high school student who excels in sports journalism and must be pursuing a college degree in journalism, communication, video, media, or a related field with intentions of pursuing a career in sports. West Point LEADS Conference

The West Point Sponsored DC Area LEADS Conference will take place at MITRE Corporation in McLean, VA on Friday, 13 April 2018. This is a first-class event open to any VA, MD, or DC 6th-10th graders. The event will also be attended by local educators, congressman/state officials, business leaders and General officers.
