Some historical facts for the first pages:
Germany in the 1930s: The economy collapsed in 1930. During the 1920s
and early 1930s Germany was trying to recover from World War I. It had
to pay reparations and try to rebuild the economy from bankruptcy.
Mein Kampf (pronounced [maɪ̯n kampf], "My Struggle") is an
autobiographical manifesto by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, in which he
outlines his political ideology and future plans for Germany. Volume 1 of
Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and Volume 2 in 1926. Hitler began
dictating the book to his deputy Rudolf Hess while imprisoned for what
he considered to be "political crimes" following his failed Putsch in
Munich in November 1923.

In 1936, Owens arrived in Berlin to compete for the United States in the
Summer Olympics. Adolf Hitler was using the games to show the world a
resurgent Nazi Germany. He and other government officials had high hopes
that German athletes would dominate the games with victories (the German
athletes achieved a "top of the table" medal haul). Meanwhile, Nazi
propaganda promoted concepts of "Aryan racial superiority" and depicted
ethnic Africans as inferior. Owens countered this by winning four gold medals.
On the first day of the competition, Hitler shook hands only with the German
victors and then left the stadium. Olympic committee officials insisted Hitler
greet every medalist or none at all. Hitler opted for the latter and skipped all
further medal presentations. On reports that Hitler had deliberately avoided
acknowledging his victories, and had refused to shake his hand, Owens said at
the time:
"Hitler had a certain time to come to the stadium and a certain time to leave."
"It happened he had to leave before the victory ceremony after the 100
meters. But before he left I was on my way to a broadcast and passed near his
box. He waved at me and I waved back. I think it was bad taste to criticize the
'man of the hour' in another country.”
"Aryan" / ̍ ɛ ə r ɪ ə n / is an English language loanword derived from the Sanskrit
ārya ('noble').
In present-day academia, the term "Aryan" has been replaced in most cases by
the terms "Indo-Iranian" and "Indo-European", and "Aryan" is now mostly
limited to its appearance in the term "Indo-Aryan" for Indic languages and their
speakers.
Western notions of an "Aryan race" rose to prominence in late-19th and early-
20th century racialist thought, an idea most notably embraced by Nazi ideology
(see master race). The Nazis believed that the "Nordic peoples" (who were also
referred to as the "Germanic peoples") represent an ideal and "pure race" that
was the purest representation of the original racial stock of those who were
then called the Proto-Aryans.[4] The Nazis declared that the Nordics were the
true Aryans because they claimed that they were more "pure" (less racially
mixed with non-native Indo-European peoples) than other people of what were
then called the Aryan people (now called the Indo-European people).
