catering for all tastes. There will be a reception with refreshments between 18.00 and 20.00pm on CultureNight

The Burren, where Manus has lived for over thirty years, has had a major influence on his life and work. His work has been described as cubist, abstract, impressionist and romantic. The jewelled colours of his still-life, the moonscapes of the Burren and dramatic mountain scenes of the Sierra Nevada suggests an artist atthe height of his powers. His Burren paintings are a wonderful series of stratified landscapes, all horizontal lines, full of ghosts, still, calm, including some remarkable nocturnal views. Manus is a grandson of Maurice Walsh, author of the “Quiet Man” which resulted in the famous film.

The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturday 2-4pm.

Thomas Moore was the most sought-after musical superstar of his era. From lowly beginnings as the son of a grocer, Moore single-handedly brought Irish traditional music to the world, and was the friend of poets and princes. Today, however, the memory of his extraordinary life has begun to fade. But in Castletown, where Moore once sang, you can still hear the echo of his melodies . . . If you listen closely enough. Join award-winning theatre company The Performance Corporation (who are resident in Castletown House) for a specially-created Culture Night treat, and experience a theatrical song-scape that captures the echoes of the maestro’s long-forgotten recital.
