Kindness Week The Great Kindness Challenge is one school week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible.The purpose of kindness week is to highlight the importance of treating others with respect. Scientific studies have shown that when children are taught kindness, there are many benefits such as less bullying, children are overall happier and less stressed, children feel they belong more, and they do better in school. We celebrate kindness week at Bell Prairie, to emphasize the importance of showing kindness to one another. We want our students to learn how to help others and give back to the community. Please join us in participating in the Great Kindness Challenge Week, January 23-27 2017.  Monday:  Pennies for Patients kickoff assembly "Kick off to Kindness!"Coins will be collected outside the library.                - Students bring pennies              - Wear mismatch clothes                Tuesday:  Coin collection kickoff "Win from Within"              - Students bring Nickels              - Wear your favorite sports team attire Wednesday:  Pick 3 "Don't interfere with Kindness!"

             - Students bring Dimes             - Dress like a referee!             - Students will choose three acts of kindness to do at school or at home. Thursday:  Graffiti Wall "Glitter, Sparkle, Shine, but most of all be Kind!"            - Students bring Quarters            - Wear neon colors            - Students can write kind words or quotes on poster in the hall for North Oak Christian Church. Friday:  Last day of Coin Collection "Buddy up for Kindness"             - Students bring Dollars             - Dress as twinsClasses will buddy up with another class to make fun cards for children at Children's Mercy.

This month our character word is Honesty! Honesty is being truthful with words and actions.  We will be talking about honesty in guidance classes. This year we are making it our goal to fill the entire display case with service learning! Remember it can be something as simple as helping a neighbor shovel snow, donating toys or clothes, or helping with something at church.  Keep bringing in those forms! 

Magic Moments......in Sports/Fitness!!In keeping with the magic school year theme...The bulletin board outside the gym s ready for student pictures!!  Have you ever tried a new sport and loved it? Hit your first home run or scored the winning goal? Performed in a dance or gymnastics competition?  Hiked in a new location? If so, you know that magical moment that occurs when you achieve a new goal for the very first time. We are asking students to bring a picture of that special moment to be displayed on the bulletin board right outside the gym. Please put the students name and the teacher's name on the back of the picture and then turn your picture in to Coach Brown.  All photos will be returned at the end of the school year. We want to see those magical moments... so bring in those photos!!
