Slide 1- Rachel – Good afternoon Slide 2 – Rachel – I am the Project Leader (everyone else introduces them selves) Slide 3 – Rachel – our business idea was formed by combining a shared pet hate which is dropping your phone and the case chipping or scratching and a desire to re- use and recycle materials and move away from creating products out of non-renewable projects for example oil to make plastics and rubber. Slide 4 – Geert – We came up with the idea to make mobile phone cases out of wood as not only is this an area of phone customisation that hasn’t been thoroughly explored yet, its stylish and removes the problem of producing on mass non recyclable products. Slide 5 – Shumi – The company name we chose is Vigor as it can mean physical or mental strength and energy, a capacity for natural growth and survival and a Strong feeling of enthusiasm. We as a company definitely have enthusiasm for our product and are willing to invest physical and mental energy into making it succeed. We also hope that our product will grow rapidly in the market place and become successful. The logo contains strips of different wood to represent the diversity of our product it can be ordered in any wood, any colour and for any phone. Slide 6 – Geert – Our business model keeps our costs down as we will use just in time production which means that when we receive an order we make the product as each phone casing takes up to three hours to make and a further two hours to stain if required which means we can dispatch an order with 48 hours of receiving and minimise on storage costs. Also by having in house expertise in manufacturing and using a simple design and production process we also reduce costs that would occur from outsourcing. The main type of wood we’d use is Pine as its easily carved or cut, it accepts paints and stains easily, its lightweight and readily available and comparatively cheap.

Slide 7 – Rachel – By using modelling software such as Pro Desktop and connecting a laptop to a CNC Lathe or Router if becomes simple to produce these cases with little manual work. Pro Desktop connects to the CNC Router and allows you to enter exact measurements into the programme and builds a-to-scale prototype on the screen. My moving the CNC router blade by altering the x

and y co-ordinates on Pro Desktop it will move to desired starting place on the block of wood clamped onto the machines bed and begin to carve when instructed.

Slide 8 – Rachel – Also carving patterns, pictures or words on to or staining the wood a different colour can easily customise the case.

Slide 9 – Pete – Some of you may be thinking that using wood is less environmentally friendly than using plastic or rubber as trees need to be cut down. However all our wood would be either recycled or reclaimed and this would be purchased at either Bromley Wood Recycling Project or if Bromley did not carry the stock we require Brighton and Hove Wood Recycling Project where purchasing enough pine to make one phone case costs as little as 65 pence. There are also antique and historic timbers available if the customer wants something a little more extraordinary – however these cost more. There would also be a reward scheme set up where once the customer no longer needed their phone case they could request an envelope and send it back to us free of charge and receive £5 off their next order. We would then return the unwanted phone case to the recycling projects where it could be made into animal bedding, surface material for pathways or natural or decorative mulches (protective cover placed over the soil, to retain moisture, reduce erosion and suppress weed growth). By using recycled and reclaimed wood we can also become certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) which will highlight to our customers that were are environmentally friendly and helping to preserve the UK’s forests.

Slide 9 – Jun – Having a unique idea, that’s environmentally friendly and looks profitable on paper is very good but is there a demand for such a project in the market. A recent survey that we conducted showed that ********** awaiting final results***********. Also websites such as appletattoo.com, amosu.co.uk and goldstriker.co.uk offer phone customizations costing from £45 for a Sony Ericsson W880i 18ct white gold to £120,000 for a diamond encrusted blackberry, which is pictured. The combined evidence of the survey and the success of websites such as these shows there is a niche and a demand in the market which our product can easily fill.

Slide 10 – Jun – When marketing our product our target audience must always be kept in mind. Our primary audience are those who enjoy phone customization or have the money to splash out on luxurious cases however we also would have a strong secondary audience of people who wanted a strong sturdy case to protect their phone, wanted to be environmentally friendly while still purchasing something stylish and sturdy or just want an attractive, well made, value for money phone case. We would sell our products using Amazon Market place, EBay and our own website while advertising in relevant magazines such as Stuff.

Slide 10 – Shumi – Once we had create a strong and rich client base we would begin to approach mobile phone manufacturers such as Apple, Sony, Nokia and Samsung and strive to create a business deal where when you bought a phone one of our covers was dispatched with it free of charge to the customer. As new phones are being created all the time and first time phone buyers entering the market every day there should never be a point where our product is no longer

being purchased. As our customer base grows and our company become more reputable we will apply this business plan to cover laptop cases, mp3 players and other electrical and non – electrical items that our customers want an stylish and unique case for.
