It is almost that time of the year again! The football field, with goals on both ends, is being painted. The ball is ripping into the net for a goal! The Community Vikings soccer season is about to start! Losing very few seniors from last year, the team is excited about what is ahead of them for this season. The Vikings enter a new district that eliminates all of the AA schools from the old alignment.

Coach Mark Neill says he expects to be competitive this year with all of the upperclassmen on the team. Coach Neill also

Tom Brady drops perfect touch pass on fourth down in the first half giving the

Eagles the ball.

After the game, Tom Brady said that the Eagles had “only one good play.” It doesn't matter, though, because the Eagles are Super Bowl champions. The drought in Philadelphia is over. Leading up to the Super Bowl, there was a lot of speculation about numerous things in the Patriots organization as they went for their sixth Super Bowl in franchise history. The Eagles were all that was left in between the Patriots tying the Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins ever. The Eagles, on the other hand, were playing with a backup quarterback with limited starts. A lot was yet to be determined about how this young team was going to respond to adversity. One could of only hoped for a thrilling game that resembled how great the playoffs were. As both conferences featured playoff matchups for the ages, from the Titans miraculous 18 point comeback to the “Minneapolis Miracle” for the Vikings. The stage was set in Minneapolis as the New England Patriots battled the Philadelphia Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles received the ball first and drove right down the field and scored the game’s first field goal. It is ironic that the game started with a made field goal because both kickers struggled in the first half. This started a back and forth first half, which ended with the Patriots trailing the Eagles 22-12 at the half.

The Patriots never held a lead during the half. This is Tom Brady we are talking about, people. No need to worry; he will lead the Patriots back like he always does, right? Super Bowl LII’s first half had no lead changes, but each team left points “on the board”. The first half saw the most yards in Super Bowl history for a half with 673 total yards from both teams. It was Brady’s time to shine, and of course he came up huge with a five yard touchdown pass to tight end Rob Gronkowski to reduce their deficit to 22-19. The Eagles responded with an 85 yard touchdown drive completed with a 22 yard throw from Nick Foles to Corey Clement after a review upheld the play. After the extra point, the Eagles went up 29-19. Needless to say, the defense was nonexistent because the Patriots drove down the field and connected on a big 22 yard touchdown pass to Chris Hogan to make the game within one score, as the score became 29-26. The ensuing possession, the Eagles kicker Jake Elliott connected on a 42 yard field goal to extend the Eagles’ lead to six points. It was the Brady time, and like he always does, he lead the Patriots down the field and threw a four yard touchdown pass to Gronkowski with 9:22 (continued on page 3)

seconds left in the game. Same old story it felt like, but it was not. Foles took the Eagles all the way down the field to their own 45 and faced with a fourth and one with 5:39 left. With the game on the line, Foles dropped back and passed the ball to Ertz, who came up with the catch to tie the game for the Eagles. Only up by five, the Eagles decided to go for two. The attempt failed, making the score 38-33. Tom Brady got the ball after the kick with a chance to win the game. He dropped back on first down, and he looked left. He reared back to throw the ball, but the ball was no longer there. Derek Barnett had strip-sacked Brady right before he threw it! Eagles pounced on the football and set up shop deep in New England territory! The Patriots were in danger. It was only fitting for it to come down to a clutch kick by the kicker, right? After all of the troubles in the first half, rookie Jake Elliott lined up for a kick to make it an eight point game as the Eagles offense was stifled by New England’s defense. The snap was good, and so was the set. The record 46 yard field goalwas kicked, and Elliott made no

mistake putting the ball right down the middle. Perfect. The Eagles now had an eight point lead with 1:04 remaining. After an awful trick play on the kickoff pinned the Patriots deep, the Patriots drove the ball just short of the 50 yard line with time for one final play. Brady dropped back and, keeping his eyes downfield, escaped a sack rolling right, and threw up a prayer. The ball, seemingly like it would never come down, floated towards the goal-line as it started its descent. Gronkowski waited for it, and it hit him in the chest, but the ball bounced free beyond the reach of two Patriots players. That was it! The Eagles are Super Bowl LII champions! What a game! The drought in Philadelphia is over as the underdogs pull off the impossible! The Eagles are Super Bowl champions for the first time in their history! What a perfect way to end the story of underdogs doing what was virtually impossible!

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, and Pancake Tuesday, is a usual time for happy celebration. Mardi Gras begins two weeks before and through Shrove Tuesday, which is the day before Ash Wednesday. The last five days of the Mardi Gras season, however, are usually the most elaborate and have the best parades. The final week is usually enjoyed with balls and parties for the community. Though this is a time for celebration, it is also a time for a lot of crime, tickets, and injuries. For example, in 2017, police enforcement gave 29,561 parking tickets during the parade days. They booted 397 vehicles and towed 729. In a twelve day period alone, there were 373 arrests, 39 seized weapons, and 3200 emergency service calls. That’s one every five minutes!! Along with this, in just a ten day period, first aid stations helped 550 people and treated 118. There were a total of 53 fires, 864 medical calls, and 754 other types of calls. Finally, the city had to install a total of 650 portable toilets along the parade route. Remember this next time you try to hit up Mardi Gras unprepared for the crowd to come.

Chinese New YearBy: Ana Ragland

Years Corresponding to Chinese Zodiac Signs:

Every year, the Chinese New Year is spoken about, but does anyone ever stop and think about what it’s really about? The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice and ends on the full moon fifteen days later when the full moon rises, sparking the beginning of the Festival of Lanterns. This time of year is a time of friends and family, much like the American New Year. The Chinese New Year has many different factors. For example, the Chinese Lunar New Year begins in February. To be exact, the Lunar New Year began on February 16th of this year, beginning the Year of the Dog. The Chinese calendar uses the Chinese zodiac, the cycle of the twelve “paths” of the sun and the cosmos. Each year is named after one of the twelve animals within the zodiac. For example, the year of 2017 was a Rooster. Now it is not known how the years follow the characteristics of the animal of that Lunar Year, but what is known is that each animal is held sacred within the Chinese culture, each animal having its own lucky numbers, colors, and navigational directions!
