School Climate Survey (for parents to complete)
This year’s School Climate Survey is available through the Grades On-line/Parent Portal. Parents may go to www.okaloosaschools.com – choose Parent Portal from the menu (on the right side of page) – use their child’s log in &PIN (log in is the student number/PIN is the last four of the student number) and follow the instructions to complete the survey. The survey is available in Englishand Spanish.
This survey provides valuable information for the leadership in your child’s school. Parents are encouraged to complete the survey before May 22nd, 2015.

The FWBHS School Advisory Council (SAC) will be forming an aesthetics committee that will meet periodically to discuss the school’s appearance and possible changes to be made to the school in terms of appearance. If you are

College Visits (attendance procedures)Contact: B. Craig (833-3300 ext. 3301)
Students going on a college visit or college orientation must complete a college visit form and return it to the FWBHS attendance office before leaving on the visit. When this form is turned in to the attendance office the student’s absence will be recorded as excused.
When students return from the visit, they must bring to the attendance office a letter on the college’s letterhead stating they were at the visit/orientation on the date requested on the college leave form. Upon receiving the letter FWBHS attendance office will change the student’s absence from excused to school leave.
Juniors and Seniors are permitted to have 2 college visits during 2nd semester.
College leave forms can be obtained in the guidance office.
Monies OwedContact: J. Tucci (833-3300 ext. 3326)
During the week of April 7th, juniors and seniors who owe money to the school will be given a monies owed memo. This memo will tell the students the amount that is owed.
Students may pay with cash or check (made out to FWBHS) to Mrs. Lemasters in the guidance office. Please remember that students will not be able to receive/purchase prom tickets until their balance is paid.

Drinking & Driving Docu-DramaContact: Nurse Linda (833-3300 ext. 3324)
The Drinking and Driving Docu-Drama is a mock alcohol-related traffic crashwhich depicts the realities and consequences of a drinking involved motorvehicle crash. The Docu-Drama utilizes all facets of the emergency responsecommunity which respond to the “mock” or “staged” crash. In addition to thestaged program, students are given the opportunity to discuss the program in a
follow-up session. The purpose of the Docu-Drama is to give young people aclose-up look at the ugly truth that goes along with most DWI crashes.
The Docu-Drama is a 2-hour educational program consisting of two components:(1) a mock vehicle crash and (2) a follow-up. The program is staged at highschools and/or colleges/universities. Students from the school play the parts ofthe injured and fatal victims of the crash. Police, fire, ambulance, and otheremergency responders are summoned to the mock crash as the scene is playedout, and perform their duties as they would in a real life situation.
The students, who view the crash scene and the work of the emergencyresponders, listen to brief presentations by an emergency room physician and alaw enforcement office following the mock crash. Then students will return toclass for the follow-up session. This session, probably the most important partof the program, allows the students the opportunity to discuss their feelingsabout the Docu-Drama, their attitudes about drinking and driving, and to learnmore about the issue of drinking and driving and the laws.
This Docu-Drama will be present at FWBHS on Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 at 8:00am and is only for juniors and seniors.

Congratulations to Viking Senior, Patimaporn Phengphit, who received the Van Porter Artist of the Year Award at a reception given by the Art & Design Society (ADSO) of Fort Walton Beach on Thursday, April 9th.
Fort Walton Beach High School had 10 participating Senior Artists including, Andrea De Jesus, Jadelynn Douville, Samantha Hansford, Patimaporn Phengphit, Elizabeth Taylor, Iyerlee Turnbaugh, Meagan Hindel, Ashley Pellerin, Megan Bausch, and Mia Garcia.
The Arts & Design Society also gave the ADSO award and three of our students received an Honorable Mention. They were Elizabeth Taylor (photography), Ashley Pellerin (mixed media sculpture), and Megan Bausch (clay mask).

CAN YOU SPELL I-R-R-E-S-I-S-T-A-B-L-E?
The award-winning Fort Walton Beach High School Theatre Department presents THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, April 16-18 at 7:00pm, and April 19, at 2:00pm, at Fort Walton Beach High School. Tickets are $10 general admission and are available at the school office, from cast members, or at the door.
After receiving favorable reviews and three Drama Desk Awards, THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE opened on Broadway in 2005 and received the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical along with several nominations including Best Original Score and Best Musical.
For six young people, the spelling bee is the pinnacle of their middle school career. THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE follows the story
of six kids in the throes of puberty who are overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves. A hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst, the production chronicles the experience of adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. This quirky yet charming show even includes audience spellers, guaranteeing a different show every time. William Barfee (Logan Collins) is saddled with a chronic sinus condition, and has a magic foot, Marcy Park (Azhia/Ariana Ellis) is the product of a tiger mom who has made learning a joyless job, Logan Schwartzandgrubenierre (Sydney Whittaker)has a lisp and two highly competitive dads, Leaf Coneybear (Derek Raynaud) has home schooling hippie parents who don’t think he’s very smart; Chip Tolentino (Cameron Turner) is the cocky incumbent winner who is defeatedby the perils of puberty, and Olive Ostrovsky (Lauren Abel) just wants her out of touch parents to be present and proud of her. The bee is presided over by former champ Rona Lisa Peretti (Rio Caldevilla) and Vice Principal Panch (Jimmy Pierce) along with comfort counselor Mitch Mahoney (Jordan Geohagan), a parolee completing his community service.
Complete with honest and heartfelt songs such as “My Friend, The Dictionary,” “Woe is Me,” “Pandemonium,” and “I’m Not That Smart” these young outsiders learn that life isn’t fair, winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't make you a loser.
This production of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is rated PG-13 for frank talk of puberty, so parental discretion is advised. This performance is meant for high-school ages and up.

Seniors
Junior-Senior Prom 2015Contact: K. Schmidt (833-3300 ext. 1811)
Prom is Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 8:00pm – Midnight, at The Bayview Club on Eglin Air Force Base.
Dress is formal. Students will not be admitted to the Prom if not appropriately dressed.
Seniors have received their Prom Invitation in WAVE. If a senior did not get an invitation, please see Mrs. Lemasters in the Guidance Office. This invitation is
NOT a ticket – Seniors will still need to pick up a complimentary ticket during their lunch the week of April 13th – 17th.
Tickets for the Prom will go on sale during lunch, beginning Monday, April 13th– Friday, April 17th. Tickets will be $25.00 each for juniors and their guests. Seniors will receive one complimentary ticket and will be required to purchase aticket for their date if the student is not a senior at FWBHS. No tickets can be sold after the end of school on Friday, April 17th, as we need to provide Eglin Air Force Base with a complete list of attendees for the gate.
We will provide a list of attendees to the Main Gate of Eglin Air Force Base. Everyone on that list will need to show a photo ID. Students who rent a limousine/other transportation need to verify that their car can get on base. Most Limo companies in the area have a standing approval because they have tomake pick-ups and drop-offs on base regularly, but students should still ask to make sure.
If one of our students wants to bring a date who does not attend our school, the date must be old enough to attend high school, but not older than 20 and must be approved by the Administration. If the date lives out of Okaloosa County, our student must pick up a form and get it to the date’s school and ask that school tofax it back to us. Forms are available starting Monday, March 30th. We must have the form back by 2:15pm on Friday, April 17th in order to approve the date attending the Prom.
Students, whose date attends an Okaloosa school, must pick up and complete a form. The form is due to Attendance no later than 2:15pm on Friday, April 17th.
APPROVAL IS NOT AUTOMATIC! The student will be notified if the date is not approved.
If the date is not approved, the student will not be able to purchase a ticket. Please do not purchase dresses, rent tuxedoes, or line up a limo unless the date has been approved because if the date is not approved, he/she will not be attending the Prom.
Both forms are available in the Attendance Office starting Monday, March 30th.

Z96 Radio (WZNS) and Santa Rosa Mall are “Making Prom Possible” for young ladies in need of a prom dress.
Any young lady in need of a prom dress can contact Ms. Captain or Ms. Green (at number above). Distribution of dresses will be by appointment beginning the week of March 23rd through April 30th. If the dress the young lady selects is not new, she will be given a voucher to drop off with her dress at Dixie Service Cleaners to get the dress cleaned for a reduced price.
**The “Prom Dress Store” in Santa Rosa Mall is NOT open to the general public.

Our Senior Awards Night will be held on Thursday, May 21st, 2015 at 6:30pm in the auditorium.
In order to plan this year’s program, we need information from you. Seniors, if you have been offered any scholarships/awards, we would to like to recognize you. Please submit the form below with your offer letter attached to Mrs. Lipnicky in Guidance or Mrs. Smith in the Media Center no later than May 8 th , 2015.
Below is a copy of the memo that each senior received during WAVE in February. The form to complete is at the end of the memo – or you may pick a blank form up in the guidance office.
Please report each scholarship offer you have received whether you plan to attend the college or not. We will recognize all scholarship offers based on your academic performance, athletic or artistic ability, membership in clubs, and ROTC and U.S. Service Academy appointments.
Please attach a photocopy of the award notice to this page (if you have one).
Do Not report offers of financial aid such as grants or loans based on family income.
Do Not report Bright Futures Scholarships.
FWBHS will include all scholarship offers in a report to be compiled for the Okaloosa County School District.
We will recognize students earning awards at our Senior Awards Night on Thursday, May 21st,2015.
You must turn in one form and/or copy of offer on each scholarship you are awarded in order to be recognized at the Senior Awards Night on May 21st.
The absolute deadline for you to turn in this form – in order to be included in the Senior Awards Night Ceremony and Program – is Friday,May 8 th , 2015. **We realize that many scholarships will be awarded after this deadline and after the Senior Awards Night. Unfortunately, we cannot recognize those students and awards at the
program – BUT we will include them in our school report for the Okaloosa County School District. Please continue to turn in forms and notify us of awards even after this deadline has passed.

Have you registered for Bright Futures? NOW IS THE TIME! The entire process takes only about 10 minutes.
Follow these easy steps to success:

Honors Graduation Criteria
The weighted grade point average is used to calculate honors graduation designation. At the end of the seventh semester, honors graduates will be determined by the following scale:
Summa Cum Laude – 4.5 and aboveMagna Cum Laude – 4.2-4.49Cum Laude – 4.0-4.19
In order to be considered an honors graduate, students must be enrolled in the same year-long course at the same level and receive a grade for the eighth semester, or have completed their 4 required courses by the end of the seventh semester.
At the end of the seventh semester, honor graduates will be determined by averaging the following 19 credits:

Auditions for the 2015-2016 Advanced Chorus “Voices of Valhalla” will be:
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015, at 2:15pm and 3:30pm in the FWBHS Chorus room (#533). No need to preregister; just attend whichever audition time works best for you.
All incoming and current students are invited to audition. This includes all current 8th graders!
Audition forms and fliers have been mailed to middle school principals and are also available from the Valhalla Direction, Mrs. Bullard.
Please read all audition requirements before April 22nd, so that you are prepared.
The new Valhalla members will be announced on April 23rd!

English 4 Honors Parents:
In the last quarter, students will read Dracula (Bram Stoker) for the Romantic era and 1984 (George Orwell) for the Modern. Both novels will be read OUTSIDEOF CLASS. Students will receive reading schedules for both and will have attendant assignments. Please hold your student accountable for staying on track with reading. Doing so will greatly enrich their understanding of the eras and also, of course, greatly enhance their grades.

Anyone interested in trying out for the Stars Dance Team can pick up a tryout packet beginning Monday, April 13th, in the front office at FWBHS and at the frontoffice at the feeder middle schools.The DVD of the tryout routine will be released on April 23rd in the FWBHS front office. In order to receive a DVD, you must have your tryout application, fee and medical form complete.

School Based Semester Exams/EOCs :
Seniors:Thursday, May 21 st – Friday, May 29 th
See schedule below. Note that during senior exams all students will be attending school a full day (7:00am – 1:55pm each day).
Parents of 9th – 11th graders: When the senior exam schedule says that the seniors in that class period will be taking an exam – the underclassmen will be inthat class period reviewing and getting ready for their exams (given the next week). For example, on Thursday, May 21st, seniors will be in 6th period from
12:10pm-1:55pm taking their exam. Underclassmen will be in their 6th period from 12:10pm-1:55pm studying, working, and reviewing.
Underclassman:Monday, June 1 st – Thursday, June 4 th

Monday, June 1st is a regular school day for underclassmen. Students will complete their 7 th period exam from 11:55am-1:55pm on this day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30am on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (June 2nd – June 4th). Busses will be here at these dismissal times and the students will go home. Teachers will work a full day (until 2:15pm) each of these days.
