RESPONSE IN SONG “Sweet, Sweet Spirit”

ANTHEM “God is Living, God is Here” J. S. Bach

Wherefore despair? God the Lord is everywhere! God is good, and with compassion gives to all on earth his aid; His strong arm, in powerful fashion,

all good things for us hath made. In his mystic ways progressing, turns he every want to blessing. So my soul, now do not fear; God is living, God is

here! Wherefore despair? God the Lord is everywhere! Shall he sleep when shadows darken, He who made the eye so clear? When we cry, shall he not hearken, He who made the listening ear? God is God the Lord, all seeing when despair torments our being. So my soul, now do not fear; God is living,

God is here!

SCRIPTURE Isaiah 65: 17-25 (Page 607, pew Bible)

*HYMN NO. 476 “My Life Flows on in Endless Song”

SERMON “Old and New” Jocelyn Gardner Spencer MUSICAL MEDITATION PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Chris Braudaway-Bauman OUR LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

SUNG RESPONSE “Breathe on Me, Breath of God”

THE OFFERING

During the offering, please sign and pass the fellowship book, which is located at the end of each pew.

Invitation

Offertory “O How Amiable” R. V. Williams O How amiable are thy dwellings: thou Lord of hosts! My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord: My heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young: even thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be always praising thee. The glorious Majesty of the Lord our God be upon us: prosper thou the work of our hands upon us. O prosper thou our handy-work. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.

*Doxology and Presentation Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise God all creatures here below Praise God for all that love has done, Creator, Christ, and Spirit One. Amen.

We look forward to worshipping together. Summer Office and Telephone Hours Starting July 1, the church office will be open from 9 am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday. Fourth of July The Church Office will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5. June 16 Worship Service Witness A number of comments on last week’s witness included a request that the full message be available. Please see the Environmental Ministry page of the church website. This page can be found at http://www.wellesleyvillagechurch.org/spiritual-growth-community-life/environmental-ministry Would you like to be a Village Church Welcomer? This is truly a very important ministry. For the 10 am Worship Service, each team welcomes every 8th week; for First Worship, every 7th week. And, there is a list of helpful substitutes. Please email Tricia Kibbe at [email protected] or call her at 781-235-1988 x17. Thank you.

Usher Teams for September Please consider being an usher, either regular or substitute, starting September 2013. Each Team ushers once every 6 weeks. Substitute ushers fill in when regular usher is unable to do so on a given Sunday. If you enjoy being with people and want to do some wonderful work, join a Team. The duties are not strenuous and the existing team members guide you easily through the responsibilities. We welcome your participation. If you have an interest, please call Roger Regnier to discuss at (781) 235-7205 or email at [email protected]. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sunday Morning Offering Counters Needed Beginning this fall, in an effort to improve our financial controls, and to follow recommendations made in external review last year, we will be implementing a simple two-person counting of Sunday morning collections after the 10 am Worship service from September through June and after the 9 am Summer Worship services. Two church members will count the cash donations received, as well as list the number of checks and add up the totals. The donations will be locked and stored for the church accountant to conduct a second count and deposit. We will be establishing six teams of two people each who will alternate Sundays. The team will spend 30-45 minutes after the 10 am worship service to carry out the counting service for the church. If you are available, please contact Barbara Kucich at 781-235-1988, x18 or at [email protected]. Summer Movie Series Thursday, July 18 and August 1 Join us as we watch two incredible movies this summer! On July 18th we will show The Visitor, a film about a man named Walter who begins an unlikely friendship with a professional drummer from Syria named Tarek. Jodi will lead us in a drum circle starting at 7 pm, with the film beginning at 7:30 pm. On August 1st at 7 pm we will show Babette’s Feast, a film about a French refugee who settles in a Danish village and surprises her Puritan neighbors by preparing an extravagant feast for them. Please bring an hors d’oeuvre or dessert to share during the film. See posters around the church for fuller movie descriptions, and contact John Anderson with any questions at [email protected].
