    Petraea volubilis(Petraea)

    Family: Verbenaceae Shrubby, rapidly-growing

    evergreen vine which is

    native to tropical America. Woody stems attains a

    height of 6m or more. Having a very showy

    display of purplish-blue,star-shaped flowers.Flowers literally cover thevine for several weeks.

    The plant flowers in 2-3years; flowering period isfrom November to March.

    Used as climbers fortrellises and fences.

    Cultural RequirementLight requirement: plant

    grows in sun to partialshade

    Soil requirement: preferssandy loam or clay;occasionally wet

    Bougainvillea spectabilis/glabra(bougainvillea)Family: Nyctaginaceae A flowering plants native to South

    America.

    They are thorny, woody, vinesgrowing anywhere from 1-12meters in length.

    If given support they will climbvigorously, using their sharp thornsas a means of attachment.

    The thin-textured, downy, taperingleaves and small, tubular flowersplay a role in the overall attractive

    appearance of these plants (it is thebrilliantly colored petal-like bractsthat create its dramatic impact.)

    The most common colors of the itsflowers are purple or magenta, butcultivated forms are available in allhues, from pure white to orange,pink, and crimson.
