Visitors to the 61st Annual Antique Auto Show,

Illinois Region, saw an extensive variety of

automobiles, antiques such as the Stanley Steamer,

classic Rolls Royces, Cadillacs, Chryslers, a wide

range of muscle cars, sedans and convertibles from

the 50‟s and 60‟s, and of course, sports cars.

Six members of the VMGCC were represented: Bob

Hanselman and Fred Heist with their TDs, Lou

Louchios with his ‟38 VA Tickford, and Jeff

Powell, Fred Troyan and I with our TCs. As an

added plus, Bill Cole stopped by to keep us

company for a while.

It was most satisfying to see us well-represented at

the show, but most of all, when the awards were

announced, Lou and Bob both earned first place

awards for their cars. This capped a beautiful day

with beautiful cars and great friends who all share

the same crazy addiction!

Let‟s continue to show them as well as “drive them

Tally Ho Rally

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Registration is at 11:00 am,

The starting point is the parking lot of the Millrose Restaurant, 45 S. Barrington Road, which is just north of the

I-90 Barrington Road exit. The restaurant has a nice Breakfast Buffet that opens at 10:00 a.m.

The rally route is designed to provide a fun experience, with scenic and very low traffic MG roads, taking you

past open fields, horse pastures, some amazing homes, and lovely gardens and landscaping.

Please put this event on your calendar. We look forward to seeing you there.

MGTC Parts For Sale

Rick Rausch sent a note that he has

located a cache of MGTC parts for sale.

Rick says "there are many are hard to

find items." The list is much too long to

publish but if you would like to see the

list you can contact Rick

([email protected]) or the owner

Bob Cole ([email protected]) for a

copy.

Bob sent Rick "...a partial list of the

parts" he has. Bob's note said "In

addition, many smaller pieces are not

listed. They all have been in storage in

my home since the early 1960‟s and

before.

"As you will see, I do have an entire

original TC bonnet which needs to be

sanded and painted. I was planning to do

that to make sure it is properly

maintained. I also have an entire set of

TC seat springs and bottoms."

See Hundreds Of Vintage MGs

At The August 12 Meeting

Don't miss it!

Jennifer Smith has put together a slide show of her

father's cars. She says, "I have over 200 pictures. I

just stayed with the MG photos; otherwise I'd

probably have over 5,000 pictures. There are

unusual MGs (including a red boat tail), I have no

idea what some of them are, so hopefully some club

members will know.

"I tried to do sort of a history through pictures by

starting off with the MGs racing at Cadwell

Park in England, to an L-Type, 18/20, J2, J4, K3,

PAs, TCs, a TD, and even some restoration

photos. These are never before seen photos from my

father's collection (except for the ones

published in Cars & Parts magazine). Hope all of

you can attend."

XPAG/XPEG ENGINE FASTENERS

Gerry Risner sent in a comprehensive list of

fasteners for the XPAG and XPEG engines. A

version of this document updated on August

10, 2003 can be found at

http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_engine_fasteners.htm

This list was originally compiled by Dave

DuBois and Stuart Lock with updates by "TA

Terry" a.k.a. Terry Sanders of Oakland, CA.

... there certainly is plenty of excitement

throughout the week.

GOF Update for August (Information received from Jerry Cihak)

Registrations for the GOF MK XXXI in Sheboygan,

Wisconsin are starting to accelerate at a nice pace.

Be sure to call the Blue Harbor Resort to make your

room reservations before August 14 to insure that

you will have a room at the group rate for our GOF

event. After this date, the hotel will release any

leftover rooms from our reserved block to the

general public.

Congratulations to Adrianne and Charlie Key for

identifying the MG sound in our

website introduction. It was a PA

type MG. This was a difficult

challenge but Adrianne persisted

until she narrowed down the

field. She also successfully identified the “Goofy”

yell as the MG drives into Lake Michigan in the

intro. Those of us in the 50-60 age range will

remember the yell from the Wonderful World of

Disney as Goofy is given skiing lessons and

promptly flies off the edge of the mountain with this

characteristic scream.

For those who are interested in the racing event at

Elkhart Lake, we have been invited to participate in

the 24 Annual Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival on

September 11-13. See our website at mg3club.org

and click on the link for the ELVF for more

information and to download registration forms.

While the highlight of the GOF may be the run on

the Road America track on Wednesday, there

certainly is plenty of excitement throughout the

week. Our rally master, Mike Marini, has planned a

challenging but enjoyable 32 mile rally along some

of Wisconsin‟s best MG driving roads. We are

going to start the rally a little earlier than traditional

to accommodate the run on the track but not too

early for our hardy GOF Central folks. Our

Funkhana organizers, Bill and Felicia Hennessy, are

working on a course with the

theme “Sailing the Seven

Seas.” This event will be

held on Tuesday afternoon in

a parking lot adjacent to the

Blue Harbor Resort. As creative and resourceful as

Bill and Felicia are, this event should be a hoot for

not only drivers but also for spectators.

As customary, we will be running the Valve Cover

Races during the Car Show on Tuesday morning.

Some of you have already inquired about the rules.

I have attached a list of the rules that apply to all of

our MG3 Valve Cover Races which I‟m sure is

pretty standard with all clubs.

We have a great program, at a great location on a

great lake. Come Along!

Food for thought ... Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail

The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow.

If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all.

Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs.

A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water.

How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager

who wants to stay out all night?

Minutes of the

June 10, 2009 Meeting of the

Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago

Win honked the meeting to order at 8:30; this was

due to our outdoor Show and Tell night. The

weather turned better during the late afternoon so

we had a showing of four TDs, One TF, One MGB,

and a '79 Triumph motorcycle. We also had 22

members present and one guest. No new members.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved by

motion.

REPORTS

Treasurer: Ric Maitzen reported expenses of about

$350.00, leaving us with a good balance.

Membership: Bill Dobeus reported 95 paid

members. Let's try to break the 100 mark.

Regalia: In Lou Luscious' absence (he is in the UK)

Bill Cole had license fames for sale and sold out

what he brought, but there are still more if you want

one.

OLD BUSINESS

A few expenditures were discussed and approved.

There will be a 4th of July parade in Riverside.

Again we are invited by Ray and Lupe. The parade

starts at 9:00. After the parade we will participate

in the car show and at around 12:30 we will go over

to Ray‟s son's home for a cookout. Call Lupe if you

are coming (708-442-7380) or Ray (708-997-7380)

There will be a notice of the parade sent out so the

whole club will be informed.

We have the location for the Presidents picnic

(National Athletic Club, Fox Lake), set for August

2nd. There are grills on site, the club will have

charcoal; you bring your main dish and something

that can be shared. Call Win Gould to let him know

what you will bring (847-234-3365). Beverages are

on the grounds, and are supposed to be bought from

the club.

NEW BUSINESS

The latest issue of the Sacred Octagon has Jennifer

Smith's article about her father's long lost MG. We

are still looking for your MG love affair story for

our newsletter.

Our next event will be the Garage Tour on June 27.

The first stop will be Jeff and Sharon Powell‟s in

Melrose Park (708-344-2268). On page 4 of the

June Viewpoint is a location map. Next stop will be

Ray and Lupe‟s garage, and maybe something

special in between.

Ric Maitzen gave a follow up on the 2009 Spring

Tour to Lake Geneva. Our thanks to Ric and Nancy

for hosting this event again.

The guest for the evening was Ron Ehrenhofer, a

long time friend of mine and fellow restorer. Ron is

the new general manager of Blackhawk Farms

Raceway. Ron gave a brief history of Blackhawk

and invited the club to the 17th Blackhawk Vintage

Classic event this Fathers Day weekend, June 20-

21. Everyone driving an antique car will have free

admission and breakfast by the Shiners. There is a

new concession building and good food on site.

We adjourned and had some more show and tell

indoors.

Minutes of the

July 8, 2009 Meeting of the

Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago

Due to the inclement weather there were no cars out

for the Show and Tell. President Win Gould called

the meeting to order at 8:05.

We did not have the minutes from the last

meeting.

In attendance were 16 members, one new member,

Ed Venckus with a 1953 TD, and one renewal.

REPORTS

Treasurer: Ric Maitzen reported on our ending

balance after expenses.

Membership: Bill Dobeus reported a paid

membership of 97 members. Let's make that

100 in the next couple of months.

Regalia: No report tonight as Lou Louchios was

just getting back from his UK vacation.

O1D BUSINESS

The garage tour was well attended. We visited Jeff

Powell and Ray Navarro garages with a side tour to

Andy Simo's car collection. Thank you to Ray and

Jeff for opening your garages and organizing this

event.

The 4th of July parade in Riverside did take place,

with Ray Navajo as this year's Grand Marshall.

After the parade we participated in the car show,

with several of our members winning awards. We

then preceded to one of Ray's sons' home for a cook

out. Thank you to Ray, Lupe and your family for a

great day and time.

NEW BUSINESS

July I 9, is the 6th annual Lake Forest Auto Show at

Deerpath High School.

The President's Picnic is Sunday, August 2, at the

National Athletic Club, in Fox Lake. This is a

private club allowing us the use of their grounds.

There will be swimming, boating and games. You

are asked to bring your own food and a dish that we

can pass around. We must purchase all our drinks

from their bar.

Discussion followed as some members have

expressed disappointment that the club was not

picking up the tab for the food. When the event was

discussed at the last meeting, no one voiced their

objection to bringing our own food. The problem in

trying to order food is that one never knows how

many people will be coming even with a sign-up or

call-in, as we all wait until the last minute to

respond. The members present at this meeting voted

to cover a portion of the bar bill with the use of

coupons.

At the August 12th regular meeting Jennifer Smith

will present a slide show on her father's car.

Get your navigators ready, as August 16 Carl Vogel

will be our Rally Master and bring back the Tally

Ho Rally after a several year absence. Good Luck.

The editor is still waiting for your article on your

MG story. You could be in the next Viewpoint.

After adjourning we had a lively discussion on

members' problems and a Show and Tell of some

parts.

From Reinout Vogt: "Here are some pictures from the 4th of July event with Rey and Lupe Navarro in

Riverside. I was too late with the camera to photograph all the winners of the car show, but the picture of

The Milwaukee & Great Lakes MG Motorcar Group

MGMGMG is pleased to host GoF Central once again.

Summer is finally here, and that means that our GOF is right around the corner. If you haven’t visited the official GOF

website yet, please do so now to get all up to date information and forms at mg3club.org/GOF/GOF.html. Please fill them out

promptly, return them as soon as possible, and also make your reservations at the Blue Harbor Resort. This is going to be a

great event at a beautiful location which you will not want to miss. The committee chairs are working hard to develop a

quality program to make this one of the most memorable GOF’s. There will be a First Timer‟s Car Show on Monday evening

on the entrance circle of the Blue Harbor which will be a superb venue for this event. All throughout the event, a Slot Car

Racing track will be set up in the hospitality room for you to test your skill.

During the day on Monday, we have several can’t miss tech sessions for both the guys and gals. We have arranged for two

outstanding tech session speakers: Carl Heideman from Eclectic Motorworks in Michigan will present Welding Basics and

Beyond to show ways to improve welding skills for both beginners and experts alike. In the afternoon, Peter Caldwell of

Worldwide Auto Parts in Madison will discuss Lever Shock Absorbers and will cover the early models through the later designs

in our MGs. Also in parallel sessions Monday morning, Deb Jozwowski will give a one hour presentation on Reiki, a Japanese

Relaxation Technique and Amy Butler will provide an hour session to Make „n Take a Beaded Bracelet. Also in the afternoon, a

tour of the Caan‟s Floral Shop in Sheboygan will be conducted with transportation provided.

On Tuesday morning, the traditional Car Show will be held on the Blue Harbor grounds overlooking the lakeshore. While the

car show is in full swing, there will be Valve Cover Racing, and a Vendor Display and Swap Meet. On Tuesday afternoon, a

Funkhana event will be held to test your driving skill and have some fun. For those of you not driving, this is a spectacular

spectator event. In the evening, the traditional silent and audible Auction will be held amongst the hospitality. As an evening

capper, we are planning a Star Party on the hotel grounds where we can get some really dark sky. If you have never peered at

a heavenly body through a telescope, this will be a treat you won’t want to miss.

On Wednesday morning, the always popular Rally and Tour will be the focus for the day, driving on some of Wisconsin’s

premiere country roads. There is always plenty of good competition for this event, so get a good nights sleep and line up early.

The afternoon is free for you to relax or enjoy the water park which is free to hotel guests. The final act will be the awards

banquet on Wednesday evening.

Get your registration forms sent in now. Hope to see you all September.
