Develop a universal music stand. Musicians need a creative stand that allows them to utilize modern conveniences while practicing and performing.

Decision Matrix

Paragraph for Decision Matrix: Our decision matrix was made to determine which features was the most reliable, innovative, cost efficient, durable, and their function. The First thing which we considered adding to the typical boring music stand was to add an iPod/iPad attachment. The reason this feature would be beneficial in today’s economy is because currently Apple is one of the most profitable companies in the U.S. An iPad/iPod attachment would make the music stand much more accessible to the general public, and it would give them a reason to buy an updated music stand. The second feature which we thought to be a great addition to the music stand would be lights. One of the problems with normal music stands is that they don’t allow internal lighting; most of the light would come from the exterior lighting of the room where they are playing. The type of lighting would be fluorescent to ensure the green quality of our project. Thirdly, we thought that the design of the normal music stand was fairly boring so we strongly considered completely changing how the stand stays up, by adding a circular wooden stand it would give the stand a fresh updated futuristic look. By implementing all of these Ideas we could successfully make and sell a very profitable product.

I think the end product turned out extremely well. The music stand has capabilities that many people haven’t dreamed to add to one. The Ipad allows the user to look up music/sheet music/videos on the internet, recording software, word processing, etc. to help with creating and playing music.

Problem Statement: Musicians need a creative stand that allows them to be able to utilize the modern conveniences available while they are performing.

Design Statement: Design, build, test, and present an adjustable music stand. This design should be tested and approved by the majority of a random sampling of consumers.

Constraints: • Height adjustable for use while performers are sitting or standing

• Must hold two (2) legal size sheets of paper side by side with a minimum of 2 inches extra space

• Needs compartments for musical instrument accessories (guitar pics, reeds, etc) • Must securely hold an I pad or PC tablet
