And our pupils were inspired. Throughout Futures Week they took part in the fantastic range of activities on offer. These included the virtual careers fair, quiz and exploring Unifrog. Year 10 have also been considering their Post 16 options too and we will use their feedback to ensure they have a personalised programme of careers guidance in the new year. Our thanks go to Ms Cogher for putting together such a fantastic programme. We commemorate Windrush Day on June 22nd. This is the 70th anniversary of the arrival of people from the Caribbean in 1948 who came to help rebuild Britain after the 2nd World War. They were invited by the British government as citizens of the British Empire with the promise of a new life. The extensive contribution they made, including to the NHS, transport and many more sectors is widely acknowledged. However, the racism they, and generations since have faced is a stain on a nation that aims to uphold the highest ideals of respect, individual liberty and rule of law. But now it feels there is a once in agenerational opportunity to really make adifference to eradicate racism fromsociety and we want to embrace this. We want all our pupils to feel accepted, proud of who they are, and respectful ofothers. This means our curriculum mustbe reflective of our diverse Bermondseycommunity, and give opportunity forpupils' expressions of their cultures andcelebration of these. We will also ensurethat biases are removed from thecurriculum enabling pupils to explore, forinstance, the good as well as the mistakes of history and historical figures. They canthen make better informed judgements oftheir own and be better educated as aresult. This is a period of opportunity tomake a better future for all of us. As we now move into the final weeks ofthe year and exam week, it is pleasing tosee the highest levels of pupils'engagement since lockdown. Let's keepthis up and your continued investment inyour future! Marcus Huntley Principal

by Mr May On the 15 June 2020, a group of 27 of the world'sleading scientific experts gathered on DrummondRoad to offer their expertise to solve the mystery ofChild 0 who went missing in the evening of 23March 1845. She was last seen in her family home in thenotorious part of North Bermonsdey known asJacob’s Island. They are contributing to a number of researchpapers that will lead to a presentation on the 16July 2020 at Compass to their peers and the widercommunity. The research will look at the causes ofher disappearance and if it was connected to theCholera outbreak of the same year. They will beasking challenging questions about whether theliving conditions in North Bermondsey had a directimpact on infection rates and the following deaths. They will be taking witness statements, capturinglocal and national responses to a virus that had adevastating effect on our local community. It is believed their research will inform the currentdiscussions about C19 and lend to the debate aboutthe relationship between inner-city living conditionsand the prevalence of the virus. Some challengingquestions will be  asked and some difficult truthswill need to be faced. As key workers, our scientists are all sending theirchildren to our physical school on Drummond Road– we look forward to their conclusions andrecommendations on the 16 July.

It has been wonderful to have them back on site, studyinghard with their teachers and peers. We can't wait to welcome back all of our students when thetime is right!
