ASSESSING PERFORMANCE OF PROCESSOR VIRTUALIZATION BETWEEN VMWARE ESXI AND KVM (KERNEL-BASED VIRTUAL MACHINE) USING LINPACK BENCHMARK

Page 2: virtualization presentation

Objective• The objective of this project is to benchmark the performance of the two hypervisors i.e. VMware ESXi and KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) simultaneously.

•The benchmarking is done by performing tests on the virtual machines installed on both the hypervisors

• The test is performed by using a benchmarking software LINPACK, a standard benchmarking software for measuring the performance of the CPU.

SecurityThe security measures taken in this experiment are:

1. Enable firewall.

2. Secure login through putty.

3. Virtual machine isolation.

4. Enable VLAN.

5. Enable SSH.

Conclusion

• On benchmarking both the hypervisors, results show that VMware ESXi took larger number of Gflops than KVM which proves that VMware ESXi has high performance than KVM.
