Out of Hours Access can be arranged for GOSH and ICH users by speaking with Security on the ground floor.

Issue Desk and Quick Reference

Staff at the Issue Desk will be happy to help with your enquiries, as well as Issue/Return any items you wish to borrow from the library.

Leaflets and Library guides are available covering a broad range of subjects, from training sessions to electronic resource access.

Opposite the issue desk is a Quick Reference collection containing numerous useful medical and reference books.

Lockers are available to library members.

Desktop@UCL ComputersNext to the Issue Desk is a cluster of 8 Desktop@UCL computers available for ICH and UCL staff and students.

To Login, enter your UCL IT user name and password.

4 more machines are available in the Global Health and Development Collection.

Eduroam wireless connection is available throughout the library for UCL staff, students and members of participating higher education organisations.

GOSH Computers

There are five computers in the library linked to the GOSH network. These are for GOSH staff only and require a GOSH account to login.

These machines are linked to a printer. To print, you will need to select the printer. Instructions are given on the laminated sheets which are stuck to the desk.

Explore Access Points

There are five computers, known as ‘Explore Access Points’, which all members of the library can use to access the ejournals and databases which UCL subscribes to.

Journal articles can be saved to a non-encrypted USB stick.

From here users can also search UCL’s library catalogue in order to locate books and other printed resources, place interlibrary loan requests and request items from the UCL Library Stores. Printing and internet access is not available from these machines.

Printing and Photocopying

Black and white printing and scanning to email (UCL users only) are available via combined printer and scanner in the main computer area.

Black and white/colour photocopying, black and white/colour printing and scanning to email (UCL users only) are available via a machine situated just outside the quiet reading room.

GOSH Staff can register and pay for copying using the Cash Loader.

JournalsThe collection of journals runs in alphabetical order around the computer cluster. The current issue is displayed on the front shelf. The other issues from the current year are stored on the shelf underneath.

The Library holds around five years of each title. Older issues are kept offsite in the UCL Store: they can be requested online and they are delivered in the Library on the following working day.

To locate journals, you can either consult the printed list of journals available at the Issue Desk or search the web catalogue.

The Reading Room

Through the glass doors is the Reading Room. This is a quiet study area with plenty of desk space.

This room contains the collection of paediatric, medical, nursing and allied health books that can be borrowed by library members.

Global Health and Development Collection

Behind the Issue Desk is the Global Health and Development Collection, a special collection of publications that focus on social and environmental approaches to global health and development.

The Collection houses material to support the courses run by the UCL Institute for Global Health. Books and other items can be borrowed by all library members.

There are a further 4 Desktop@UCL computers in this part of the library.
