The Visa POS Check Service allows your merchants to convert paper checks presented at the point of sale into safe, efficient “electronic” checks.

Visa POS Check Service gives merchants the best authorization experience possible, using real-time authorizations against live bank accounts for a significant portion of the checks accepted. Authorizations for non-participating banks are made using the NCN database.

Benefits to your merchants include:

Ensure 48 hour fund availability from checks Virtually eliminate the time and expense of depositing checks at the bank. Reduce check acceptance costs and risks. Streamline back office procedures. Fewer checks to handle. Because checks are immediately returned to consumers at the point of

sale, there’s no paper for merchants to handle, process, and deposit at their bank. Fewer checks means lower bank processing fees.

Improved customer service. Customers benefit from the speed and convenience of the fast checkout enabled by the conversion process.

Service Options

With the Visa POS Check Service, merchants can choose service options that manage risk as appropriate for their business:

They determine if the check is eligible for conversion to an electronic item and verify whether the account is open or closed. Conversion cannot be performed on corporate checks at this time.

• Verification with Conversion. The check authorization message is routed to the customer’s bank or the National Check Network database to determine if the check can be converted to an electronic item, AND confirm that the account is open, and verify the probability that the check will be paid based on current information available to the authorizer. Checkcare makes an accept or decline decision based on access to the checking account or the database.

• Guarantee with Conversion. In addition to all the steps taken for the Verification with Conversion option, Checkcare also decides whether the check can be guaranteed for payment based on available funds or other information. Checkcare accepts all the risk!
