Next generation network is a packet basednetwork able to provide telecommunicationservices and able to make use of multiplebroadband,QoS enable transport technologiesand in which services related function are
independent from transport.

Horizontally-integratedNetwork
The rapid convergence o
f telecom. and internettechnologies has lead to theintegration of verticalnetworks into multi-service
or next generation networksthat provide reliable andreal-time communicationsfor all services.

There are two automated telephone
systems.
ØPrivate branch exchange (PBX).
ØCentrex systems.

Ø A PBX is an internal telephonenetwork.
Ø
Users share a certain numberof lines for making telephonecalls outside the company.
Ø A PBX system allows calls tocome in to the company from
external telephone lines.Ø A PBX is less expensive than
connecting an externaltelephone line to everytelephone in an organization.

Centrex
system
In a Centrex system, a pool of telephonelines is leased at the phone company’scentral office.
In this system, the telephone companyowns and houses the equipment at theirlocation.
This service is easy to set up, upgrade, and is highly reliable.
It has fewer features than many PBX

The internet protocol suite is the set of communication protocols used for the internetand generally the most popular protocol stackfor wide area networks it is commonly known as
TCP/IP. It provides end to end connectivityspecifying how data should be
formatted,addressed,transmitted,routed andreceived.it has four layer.
1 Application layer.
2 Transport layer.
3 Internet La er.

The application layer contains the higher-level protocolsused by most applications for network communication.Examples of application layer protocols include theFile Transfer Protocol (FTP) and theSimple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).
Application Layer
TransportLayer
The transport layer establishes host-to-host connectivity,
meaning it handles the details of data transmission that areindependent of the structure of user data and the logistics of exchanging information for any particular specific purpose. Itsresponsibility includes end-to-end message transferindependent of the underlying network, along with error
control, segmentation, flow control, congestion control, andapplication addressing

The internet layer has the responsibility of sendingpackets across potentially multiple networks.
Internetworking requires sending data from the sourcenetwork to the destination network. This process iscalled routing
Internet layer
Network
Layer This layer defines the networking methods within thescope of the local network link on which hostscommunicate without intervening routers. This layerdescribes the protocols used to describe the localnetwork topology and the interfaces needed to affect
transmission of Internet layer datagrams to next-

4
Ø IPv4 is described in September 1981.Ø IPv4 uses 32-bit (four-byte) addresses,
which limits the address space to4294967296 (232) addresses.
Ø
IPv4 is a connectionless protocol for useon packet-switched Link Layer networks(e.g., Ethernet).

represented by 8 groupsof 16-bit hexadecimalvalues separated bycolons (:). For example:
