curricular activities to develop overall personality of the students. We have cultivated a
blend of fine sportsmen and academicians in the last three decades.
MIT, Pune is always keen to follow the ideals of the great noble son of India, Shri Swami Vivekananda.
“Our country needs a few strong men, with muscles of iron and nerves of steel.”
“It is better to run after a football than to read the Gita."These words are a great source of inspiration to the management and
students of MIT Group of Institutions, Pune.
Our Commitment :
“Nation Building through Sports”
MAEER'S MIT Group of Institutions, PuneMIT Group of Institutions has always given emphasis on sports activities from the first day of its establishment; i.e 1983. Today, 73 Institutes and 50,000 + students are studying in various streams at MIT. Being a pioneer in the engineering activity and privatisation of education to University level, I firmly believe we Indians should create such dais where every student gets an equal opportunity to show his talents in sports. In all our educational institutes major emphasis is given to value based education along with extracurricular activities. Let it be a Vishwashanti Gurukul school student or be it a MANET Cadet, their day begins with sports, yoga, Meditation lessons. With this focus ample infrastructure is developed to facilitate all the students. We have cultivated a blend of fine sportsmen and academicians over a period of time.
MIT Group of Institutions has produced National & International players like: Ajay Gandhi and Nitin Gandhi (Badminton), Anand Deshpande & Sushil Nadkarni (Cricket), Abhishek Bobade (Basketball), Ravneet Singh and Vivek Rai (Squash), Kapilesh Bhate (Equestrian show jumping) and Sumedh Gangel (Golf) Amullya Sharma (Rowing). MIT is in pursuit of young talent who can carry this legacy ahead. Sports unite people of different backgrounds. It breaks the barrier of caste, creed and religion to bring them together to achieve glory and honour. It is our vision and mission to see students from all over India to showcase their talent in true sportsman spirit, because we believe that sports does not build character but reveals it. So I appeal to all the youth of the nation to join hands to fullfill this mission. Come, let's build the nation!!!
Prof. (Dr.) Vishwanath Karad, Founder, MIT Group of Institutions Pune, India has cherished great love and interest for sports from his early childhood. He has always been keen to follow the ideals of the great noble son of India Shri Swami Vivekananda who said “Our country needs a few strong men, with muscles of iron and nerves of steel.” Those can change the face of mother nation. “It is better to run after a football than to read the Gita.” His reverence towards sports was inspired by none other than his father Rashtradharmabhujak Dadaroa Karad. Rashrtadharmabhujak Dadarao Karad was born in a humble farmer's family. He sported a great sense of pride for the country at a very young age and was known for being a staunch patriot and for his unflinching devotion towards the nation. As a mark of respect and remembrance of Rashtradharmabhujak Dadaroa Karad, a state level wrestling event is organized every year in his birth place Rameshwar. This very popular event was organized for the very first time in the year 2007. It heralded a new era in wrestling in the quaint village of Rameshwar. The wrestling event brought with it new technology and advanced facilities to promote sports in this otherwise old fashioned village which lacked basic infrastructure and simple facilities to aid the development of sports in general and wrestling in particular.
Prof. (Dr) Vishwanath Karad belongs to the Varkari community. A community that is known for its duty based approach to life, emphasizing moral behaviour and devotion to the lord Vitthal. Prof. (Dr) Vishwanath Karad organizes Varkari Mahavir Kusti (wrestling) competition on the auspicious occasion of Ashadi Ekadashi pilgrimage every year at the Wakhari, Pandharpur.
Prof. (Dr.) Vishwanath Karad has contributed greatly towards the development of wrestling. He organized the prestigious Round Table conference to bring together the stalwarts of wrestling from all over India. He also developed a top red clay mud wrestling akhada with all modern facilities at the MIT engineering college in the year 1998. The inauguration of this wrestling akhada was done by the honourable Hindkesari Ganpatrao Andalkar and Rashtriya Kirtankar and Yog-Guru Shailar mama.
At the age of 76 years, he has managed to maintain a good physique. Inspite of having a busy schedule he practices yoga daily
Prof. (Dr) Vishwanath Karad is actively trying to nurture the love of sports in the minds of young students who are otherwise busy with technology and following sedentary lifestyle. MIT organizes national level sports competition, 'Summit' every year. MANET Sports meet is also organized every year at the MIT Rajbaug Loni Kalbhor campus to give a platform to upcoming athletes and Sportsperson to showcase their talent.
The MIT-ADT University is now the torchbearer of this new era of Sports. The devotion and reverence of Prof. (Dr.) Vishwanath Karad towards sports has led to the first ever state level MIT-ADT University Vishwanath Sports Meet 2017. This event will certainly herald a new beginning in the world of sports as it will be the best platform for any sportsperson to perform in different events and unleash his talent for the betterment of the future of sports in India.
