3EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Peace and Reconciliation – Concept and Vision
We see 5 sources of conflict: Inner-/intercultural and religious tensions, misleading politics, injustice, misuse of power and exclusion of faith.

Due to globalization

tension.
Societies turn back to
nationalism and
protectionist politics.
The access to
relevant life resources
is unjustly distributed.
The haves and have

Conflict parties are
involved in proxy wars
protecting their
economic and
political interests.
Traditionally, the
development industry
has excluded faith.
Faith has been cast as
a source of conflict.

The rise of local, national and international conflict zones is
unprecedented.
There is growinguncertainty among conflict resolution
agencies about how to build peace in areas of unrest.
There is great potential for peace building and conflict resolution in faith
communities around the world.
The potential for peace building of millions of Evangelicals has yet to
be fully unleashed, though many live in conflict areas.
Our proposal is to acknowledge the potential of faith communities and motivate them towards peace building.

63. OUR VISION AND OUR MISSION
Mission
We exist to strengthenthe Evangelical Alliance
at world, regional, national and local levels, promoting and establishing
Peace and Reconciliation Networks, where they do not yet exist,
in order to enable the Church to advance the Good News
of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, and effect personal and communitytransformation for the glory of God.
We believe that the global Evangelical movement has the capacity to bring peace and reconciliation to places which have been in unrest for too long. United in faith we share values which underline the emphasis on the need of reconciliation and forgiveness which both is a fundamental condition towards peace.

74. OUR CONTIBUTION TO A SOLUTION
• The Christian
community forms
the largest and
most influential
faith community
and wields
enormous
resources.
• Our approach is
two-fold: building
& strengthening
alliances through
networking and
implementing the
‘TRAIN’ strategy.
• We engage in peace-building worldwide by empowering the global Evangelical Church to engage in conflict resolution
and becoming agents for peace in their particular communities and beyond.
• In order to meet the challenges global conflicts present, we seek to establish a network of all peace-seeking people on

Our strategy (TRAIN) includes five key tools to empower the actors to be involved in peacebuilding and transformation of communities.
Shaping a vision and developing of Teachingprogrammes and tools on Peace and Reconciliation in Evangelical training centers worldwide together with partners of the WEA.
96. OUR STRATEGY
Initiation of local, national and international initiatives on peace and reconciliation on the basis of national and regional EvangelicalAlliances.
Assistance to agents involved in P&R by providing resources and personnel if available.
Restoration in areas of conflict or unrest, by initiating and facilitating initiatives of peace and reconciliation in cooperation with global and/or national and/or local partners of the WEA.

YOUR QUESTIONS
Peace and Reconciliation – Concept and Vision
WEA is a global ministry working with local churches to join in commonconcern to live and proclaim the Good News of Jesus in their communities.
What We are
The World Evangelical Alliance is a global association of national and regional Alliances, global networks, partners and associated ministries who work together to strengthen the evangelical Church around the world to advance the Good News of Jesus Christ and to seek holiness, justice and renewal at every level of society, so that God is glorified as the nations of the earth are transformed.
• Over two billion Christians in the world today are represented by three world church bodies. The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) is one of those, serving and representing more than 600 million evangelicals.
• Launched in London in 1846 to unite evangelicals worldwide, the WEA continues to be a dynamic movement with 7 regional and 129 national Evangelical Alliances, and over 150 member organizations.
• WEA’s mission is to unite and strengthen local churches by connecting its members and others for common action, speaking as a global voice, and equipping members and leaders in the furtherance of the Gospel.
What We Do
• Represent with a Global VOICE
The WEA is uniquely positioned as a representative voice; advancing evangelical values, addressing concerns and advocating for the marginalized. WEA’s voice includes its engagement at the United Nations and behind-the-scenes diplomacy with governments, as well as its engagement with the media on global issues.
• EQUIP for Global Impact
Through its commissions and initiatives, the WEA serves to equip its members with publications, research, leadership training and resources on topics of theology, missiology, social justice and more. Many of these resources are available free at www.wearesources.org.
• CONNECT for Common Action
In accordance with Jesus’ prayer in John 17, unity among Christians and evangelism go hand-in-hand. As the world’s largest evangelical association, the WEA connects many church networks, ministries and organizations for greater strategic impact. WEA’s various projects foster unity, synergy and collaboration between its members and many others on topics of common concern. The WEA has, since its beginning in 1846, stressed the importance of united prayer.
