The Edmonton Accordion Society was formed in 1995 and meets the second Wednesday of the month (except July) at the Capilano Community Hall at 7:00pm.
The organization is a registered not-for-profit society whose purpose is to promote the accordion: through our monthly meetings, our annual Accordion Extravaganza Festival, our website (www.edmontonaccordion.com) and through member performances at various venues. The Society also strives to link with the many cultures which feature the accordion as a folk instrument.
Our common interest is playing, listening to and learning more about this very diverse musical instrument. Some play from sheet music, some play by ear and some do both. The expertise of our members ranges from beginner to advanced. All members are willing to share their music, knowledge and accordion techniques.
The music played at meetings covers a wide range of genres.
Members of the club are active playing for farmers markets, Senior’s residences, dances, parties, jams and other social events. They have played at the Ukrainian Village east of the city and for other ethnic organizations. Some members teach and others travel, visiting other accordion groups and attending accordion events throughout North America.
Talented accordionists at the top of their field have taken part in the Society’s annual festival.
Everybody is welcome at our meetings! Bring an accordion. Play in a group or play a solo. Or just grab a coffee and listen to the music.
