Message from the Bridge

from the Commander

Greetings My Friends! It is that time of the year and your boats are all winterized and

nestled in their berths. Though the season has turned cold you can still think about boating by taking a course such as Seamanship that will start Wed. 23 January 2013 at the former Richardson School. Our Piloting Course will start Wed.15 January 2013 at Richardson School also. See below for further details. There are other courses available also. If you are interested in any other courses please contact me and we can make arrangements for that course. We will be starting our Basic Boating Course in late February or early March for any of your friends or relatives as well as the public. We will keep you posted with further details for that boating course.

Before I end my article I have a Trivia question from Boat US.

Of all 50 states, which would you guess had the most freeze-related claims? New York? Maine? Michigan? Guess again. Look for the answer in this newsletter.

On behalf of the Bridge, we wish you all Happy Holiday’s and a Very Happy Healthy New Year. If you have any questions or if I can be of any help please

contact me by phone 508-947-6317 or email me at [email protected].

Happy Holidays! Commander Ellen Cardoza, AP

Vessel Safety Check

All TRSPS members are encouraged to have their vessels examined and proudly display the Vessel Safety

Check decal. Give Lee Blackburn a call at 508-947-2119 or email at [email protected] to arrange one.

Trivia Answer: An examination of the BoatUS Marine Insurance claim files found that balmy California had more winterizing claims than any other state including any of the “deep freeze” states. While winters may be much colder in the deep freeze states, the bitter temperatures are a fact of life and preparations for winter are taken very seriously. But in more temperate zones like California, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia, winter tends to be relatively comfortable in most areas with an occasional cold spell. And if the forecasts are not taken seriously they can do a lot of damage.
