Visual Arts Department Importance of Foundation Courses (AVI courses) Students are highly encouraged to take the foundation courses in each grade level. Artistic skills and knowledge build sequentially over the four years. The foundation courses offer a good grounding in basic skills which allow each student to be successful in developing a professional portfolio. These courses offer drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital illustration, and design. The AVI Foundation series courses also serve as prerequisites for most of the special series courses. NATIVE STUDIESNative Studies is offered through the Visual Arts Department.  The importance of First Nations, Metis and Inuit culture and history are examined through current aboriginal issues.  The course content is research and inquiry based, 

however student understanding is expressed through the arts.                                                                      NAC 2O1  -No prerequisite                                       

                      NDV 3M1  -Prerequisite -NAC2O1 or Grade 10 History

Native Studies are Group 1 credits, not an art credit.
