My project for class this week was to take a series of photographs that demonstrate design principles such as light, focus and composition. My daughter just got a new kitty so the two of them became my subjects this afternoon. It was fun to break out the camera and take photos again. It has been a few years since I closed down my portrait photography business and

I forgot how much I love being able to photograph people and

relationships. It made me wish that I hadn’t gotten sick

and could still run my business.

Photography is such a major passion of mine and it was great to be able to stretch out my long unused tools and take them for a spin. I may try to do more photography with a few close friends so I can practice more.

Description: This project is about learning to photograph and design a page that incorporates colors and

design principles into photography as well as your page design.

Process: I first chose a color scheme for the project that I wanted to do. I used my DSLR to take this image and used the lilac wall as a backdrop on purpose. It helps to bring in the color violet from the tetrad color scheme.

Message:I used a fun and simple fun to appeal to the teens for this flier.

Audience: Young girls age 12-17

Top Thing Learned: That you need to design your photoshoot like you would design the graphics on your page. They all work together.

Color scheme and color names: Violet, Teal and Indigo in a tetradic. I used the lighter forms of these colors to give the page an airy and fresh feel.

Description: Photo Montage

Process: I used Photoshop to design this montage. I used the lasso tool and

feathered the images at 100 px. I then added a gaussian blur filter to the angel to

give it an ethereal feel.

Message: We needed to do a photo montage with a spiritual theme.

Audience: This will be anyone who needs support and hope while going through difficult times.

Top Thing Learned: I have never created a photo montage this way before. The whole project has been a new learning experiance.Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: I used the gaussian blur filter on the angel.

Color scheme and color names: Brick, orange and gold is the color scheme. It is a analogous color scheme.

Description: 3 different logo variations for a cupcake bakery.

Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to make these designs. I used the “transform each” to create the sprinkles and the pathfinder tool to create the cupcake.

Message: It needed to be a fun and colorful design that attracts an upscale

clientele.

Audience: Upscale clientele who are looking for a treat on their lunch breaks.

Top Thing Learned: The pathfinder tool isn’t something I use very often so it was good to

play around with it some more.

Color Scheme and Color Names: Quadratic Color Scheme with red, orange, yellow and blueTitle / Body Font Names & Categories:

Description: This week in class we were supposed to create a new logo, stationary letterhead and a business card. I decided to make one for Type C Design.

Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create these logo, stationary and business card designs.

Message: I want the feel to be fun and upbeat with a clean look and a creative

vibe.

Audience: I want to appeal to creative professionals who need a business brand and style.

Top Thing Learned: I learned that it is important to not just copy your logo between collateral pieces but to create unique ways to use the brand to coordinate without copying.

Color scheme and color names: Tetrad Color scheme with red, blue and green.

Title Font Name & Category: The title font is Intro Head L Base and is a sans font and also the Intro Script R which is a script font.

Copy Font Name & Category: Intro Script R is what I used for the copy on the business card. It is a script font. Normally, you shouldn’t use script font for copy, but I felt that the appeal would be strong for creatives.

Description: A two sided duplex brochure

Process: I created the brochure in Indesign with the intention of creating an offset fold. I used the

shape tool in Illustrator to create the hexagon shapes on the front as well as

the elephant logo. I placed these designs into the Indesign file when I was done.

Message: This brochure is to promote the wholesale division of

Rise Above Life and to inform wholesale buyers about pricing and terms and conditions.

Audience: Wholesale buyers of retail gifts and merchandise

Top Thing Learned: I learned how to use the paragraph style tool in Indesign as well as how to set up a document from scratch. It was great to be able to see what Indesign offered and to try it out.

Color scheme and color names: The color scheme is analogous with blues and greens and then a slight pop of hot pink.

Title Font Name & Category: Showcase Slab which is a slab font.

Copy Font Name & Category: Avenir Next Light which is a sans font.
