Profile summaryI am an experienced designer, typographer, and artworker. I use most of the industry-standard software including Adobe Creative Suite (mainly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and from time-to-time Dreamweaver) and Quark XPress – I use other programs too. I’m familiar with Wordpress and working with bespoke CMS systems. I have an iMac in my home studio.
Visual identityI have designed and implemented corporate identity and new branding schemes. For larger projects I usually either head or work with a team, eg: United Biscuits and Mott MacDonald designed at Banks & Miles, PPP healthcare identity and the ‘A’ monogram branding for Asprey designed at Smith & Milton. Smaller jobs I design and produce on my own eg. visual identities for local businesses, charity organisations, photographers or interior designers.
Web and information designWorking directly for clients I have designed, constructed and maintained Wordpress websites. For Liberty Living and Brandeaux I have designed online campaigns and modifications to their web presence whilst maintaining websites through their bespoke CMS system. I have designed web banners, facebook pages, email newsletters and email campaigns.
I have designed and managed sign projects including the signing of Chartered Accountants’ Hall in the City. I have developed a complete set of business icons for NatWest bank. I have designed information and fundraising campaigns for Battersea Dogs Home, the Brain & Spine Foundation and Ataxia UK. I created a range of templates for a bespoke ticketing system for Debenhams. I have also been a part-time tutor for typography modules with second year students on BA (hons) Graphic Information Design at University of Westminster.
Literature designAt heart I’m a typographer and enjoy working with type and typographic structure for print and literature systems. I have designed a large range of sales, marketing and information materials including manuals, magazines, business and government brochures, newsletters, academic journals and award-winning annual reports.
Artwork and productionI do most of my own artwork, often for others too – I like to be thorough and accurate. I usually put simple mailshots together in Dreamweaver and have an understanding of html and css.

Major projectsAs a freelancer I have often been called in to prepare presentations, one-off designs or to help cover for a short-term absence. I have also been involved in major projects over longer periods. Here are some of them.
Present; Freelance DesignerI work from my home studio and at the premises of clients as well as freelancing for Design Groups, Advertising Agencies and in-house in central London. Recent and ongoing work for clients includes visual identity and web design for South East London Folk Collective, Rosendale Allotments and Gill Archer garden designer. I have also designed identities and printed materials for Dead Vinyl record shop and Surfina interiors. In central London in recent months I freelanced at TM Lewin – putting together winter collection 2014/15 elements for their website and at Time Out magazine – design of their presentations to Google.
July 2011 to July 2013; Liberty Living / BrandeauxIn-house Graphic Designer for this City-based business which builds and runs UK student residences and a £1bn property portfolio. For Brandeaux funders and investors I designed and produced information packs, fact sheets and reports. For Liberty Living marketing materials: print, website and online communications with students including a complete facebook presence for the brand and for all 43 UK student residences.
March 2008 to November 2010; Home Learning CollegeI worked with the Marketing Department during a period of transition from print to internet based marketing. I designed College marketing materials – visualising: prospectuses, joint websites, banners, solus emailers and special online campaigns, realising: briefing and over-seeing print and IT production.
February to October 2007; Christmas at DebenhamsEarly on I worked with Debenhams Head Office on Christmas packaging artwork, to be printed in China. I then worked closely with the Christmas visual merchandising manager to write and produce manuals for stores and to design and artwork in-store collateral for the season. I helped organise and monitor production right through until Christmas was ‘up’ in stores.
Between 2002 and 2006 I was often engaged by Debenhams on projects. I worked with the Debenhams brand identity manager on identity guidelines and in particular a new, simple style for ticketing, store directories and large format information graphics.

Information design
Battersea Dogs HomeBattersea Dogs Home wanted the public to be aware that they have lots of ‘breed’ dogs requiring new homes, not just mixed breeds.
I designed these adverts for inclusion in programmes for the LSO summer concerts series and the Proms.

Literature design
NatWest customer bookletsThis literature system is one of the most direct ways that the bank informs and sells its financial products to customers. Displayed together on in-branch stands the covers had to attract attention in a simple and straightforward way to the correct brochure. A colour, single word title and an intriguing image was devised for each cover. I drew up icons also to steer the reader around each booklet or to point the customer to their next point of contact.
I designed the complete range over eighteen months working with Smith & Milton and NatWest’s appointed writers.

Visual identity
PPP healthcareThis healthcare provider was looking for a new brandmark to help it become ‘first choice’ for customers choosing a private health scheme.
The ‘heart of gold’ and ‘p within p within p’ go some way to represent the human qualities of the organisation: its attention to customers’ needs and the layers of care and comfort it offers.

Shuffle and StompShuffle and Stomp is a South East London Linedance Club. Together we chose a name for them and I created a visual identity, illustrations, then designed and built their website which features a ‘stomping’ masthead.
I have also designed and illustrated posters and flyers for the launch of the Club.

Debenhams ticketing and visual merchandising manualI created a typographic system simplifying new tickets in Debenhams ‘home’ departments. I then went on to design a ‘home’ visual merchandising manual – guidance for colours, typography and the photographic mood for in-store graphics.

Simon LewisA photographer well recognised by designers for his portraits, landscapes, annual reports and editorial work. He is also known, by other professional photographers, as a teacher and photographic printmaker with a wealth of knowledge about darkroom and computer image-making techniques.
I designed these typographic marks for Simon to identify photographic prints, film, cards, posters and his stationery.
A crafted craftsman’s identity.

Liberty Living on facebookI worked with the Marketing team and an external Social Media Consultant to design and develop a complete facebook presence for the brand and for all 43 student residences.
We designed Liberty Living branded facebook ‘apps’ and gathered and input images and information onto facebook pages to give the brand a professional and consistent look.
Once launched we provided content and guidance for Residence Managers who were coached by the Consultant and supported by us to engage with student residents and the wider world of facebook.
