P = Production Cost ($/m2)
C = Consumption Rate ton/hour)
D = Cost of Abrasive ($/ton, to site)
U = Clean up & disposal ($/ton) E = Equipment Cost ( $/hour) L = Labor Cost ($/hour) X = Cleaning Rate (m
2/hour)
P = {C(D+U) + (E+L)} / X Using the formula stated above, the results are tabulated as follows :

· The above table assumes clean up bills are equally applicable. In many
instances, the non-toxic nature and colour of Visy Abrasives eliminate clean
up costs.
· All test results depend on set-up conditions and surfaces blasted.

VISY GLASS
Visy Abrasive Glass is produced in four
(4) standard mil sizes, these being:-
Coating Mill Size Profile DFT Application.
1.5mm / 750 µm 90 - 110 µm 500 µm>
1.0mm / 300 µm 75 - 85 µm 500µm>
0.75mm / 300µm 70 - 75 µm 200 - 500µm
0.5mm / 300 µm 25 - 50 µm 125 -200 µm
The above grades are available in 25kg bags
in 1 1/2 ton Pallets or Bulka Bags (1 1/2 tons)
Other mil sizes are available, on request, subject to minimum
order. Example:- A. 3mm / 1.5 mm for heavy scale / barnacles.
B. 300µm / 150um for fibre glass / concrete.
Above profiles stated will depend on nozzle PSI.

Dry Blast Cleaning Rate Comparison.
Industrial Abrasives – Vision Glass
Conducted by: Surface Finishing Skills Center Pty Ltd Melbourne.
1. Introduction: Instructions were received to compare the blast cleaning rate of various abrasives on “A” Grade steel.
The following abrasives were compared.
· Zinc Slag
· Garnet
· Limenite
· Copper Slag
· Steel Shot Vision Glass
Three (3) grades of Vision Glass abrasive were tested.
2. Testing
Dry blasting tests for cleaning rates were conducted using a
9.5mm nozzle and 620KPa (90 psi) air pressure at the nozzle.
Nominally, a 500mm x 500mm area of Grade “A” steel sheet
was blasted clean. A new uncleaned surface was used for each
blasting abrasive.
The surfaces were inspected, compared against visual
standards to AS1627-Part 9. The surfaces were also examined
with a 30X magnifier (not required by AS1627-Part 9) Testex
“ Press-O-Film” was used to determine surface profile.

3. Results The results for cleaning rate (m²/hour), class of blast achieved
(AS1627-Part 9) and surface profile (using Testex) are as

4. Discussion.
There is some surprise at the results using Visy Technology “Visy
Glass” grit. There was an expectation that the softer “Visy Glass” grit would be to „soft” to cut into the steel and might even skid across the surface rather than cut into the surface.
Because of this concern a piece of very rusty steel (AS1627-Part
9-Grade „D” ) was blasted with the “Visy Glass” 1.2-600. A class 2.5 blast clean was obtained very easily and quickly.

Cleaning Rate.
The cleaning rates using „Visy Glass” compare very well with the
other blasting materials. A rank order from best to good is:
