PREGNANCY MASSAGE

COURSE ENDORSED BY MIDWIVES, IPTI AND ACCREDITED BY THE BEAUTY GUILD

This one day advanced course looks at many of the symptoms and conditions associated with pregnancy. It is a gentle touch massage; physically gentle, non forceful and non intrusive and does not stimulate the physical body in the same way as deep tissue massage, vigorous sports massage or circulatory Swedish massage, and although common techniques are used, the aim of a pregnancy massage is to be relaxing, soothing and calming, not remedial.

The pregnancy massage is carried out with the client in a side lying position and includes massaging the arms, hands, legs, feet, whole of back, shoulders, face and scalp as well as very light massage to the abdomen (subject to acceptance from the mum-to-be) Pregnancy Massage helps to prepare the body for the changes that occur during this special time and will help to promote relaxation and ease muscle tension which can aid and support the Mum-to-be and help her enjoy a health, happy pregnancy.

Exfoliation sloughs off dead skin cells that make the skin look dull and lifeless and prepares the skin for moisturising. Moisturising helps the skin to remain supple, supports it’s lipid structure and provides protection. Often a sluggish body results in a sluggish digestive system which can lead to constipation. Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, cramps, wind and infrequent/difficult to pass bowel movements. This course will teach you how to carry out a gentle abdominal massage which may (with regular application) relieve sluggish digestion. An Anatomy and Physiology qualification is NOT a requirement for this course which makes it perfect for therapists who do not currently have an A and P qualification and for people simply interested in massage for family and friends. The course is dedicated to hands-on practice ensuring students are able to carry out a treatment confidently, safely and effectively. On going support is provided. Upon completion students will be awarded a Diploma in Body Conditioning and Abdominal Massafe provided they can satisfy the Tutor that they are confident and competent.

£160 Inclusive of

Comprehensive Manual, Diploma and on going support. Students are requested to provide their own lunch - refreshments are provided. Anatomy and Physiology qualification is not a requirement to undertake this course This course will enable therapists to offer a separate Abdominal Massage and a separate Body Conditioning treatment so will offer the opportunity to add two treatments to their therapy menu.

MANICURE Hands are often neglected and yet every day we put them through rigorous challenges and expect them to deliver! A Manicure not only makes nails look tidy and cared for but combined with a hand treatment such as a hand mask and hot wax treatment, hands can look years younger too. A manicure is not just about pretty nail polish, it is SO MUCH MORE!

Hot wax is also an excellent treatment for anyone suffering from arthritis as the warmth of the wax penetrated deep into the skin layers and through to the bones bringing relief from aching muscles and joints. This one day intensive course will teach you everything you need to know about manicure techniques such as safe filing, cuticle work, exfoliation, masks, massage, the use of paraffin wax, as well as the application of nail varnish. We look at the benefits of manicures, contra-indications, contra-actions, use of products and tools as well as the basic anatomy of the hands. Upon completion students will be awarded a Manicure Diploma provided they can satisfy the Tutor that they are competent.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is taught by Sarah at Corby. She can tutor you at your premises if you do not wish to travel to Corby. Terms and conditions apply along with travel expenses.

Practice is the key to being a confident manicurist - a steady hand does not come naturally to everyone so although you will learn all the necessary techniques you may not be confident right away, so line up lots of friends so you have plenty of nails to paint - practice really does make perfect!

Important Information All of our courses are accredited by the Beauty Guild, one of the largest organisation in the field of Holistic and Beauty Therapy insurance and accreditation, and validated by IPTI (Independent Professional Therapists International) and all courses are awarded CPD (Continual Professional Development Points) In some instances, The Guild of Beauty Therapists will accept therapists as members and provide insurance cover without an Anatomy and Physiology qualification but this is subject to the type of course being undertaken. We would always recommend students study Anatomy and Physiology and where possible, Pathology, as these two qualifications will give students a real understanding of how the body works and how illnesses can affect the body. We do offer both courses through the Beauty Guild and information is available by clicking on the link GTi Beauty Guild Courses

For our Swedish Body Massage, Reflexology and Aromatherapy Diploma's students will be required to provide proof that they have an A and P qualification or proof that they are working towards their qualification. Students will require a Full Body Massage qualification in order to train in Hot Stones Massage and Thai Compress Massage. We provide quality training at Vitality Holistic Massage and Beauty Training but it is the students responsibility to ensure that the course they are studying will be recognised by their current employer or future/prospective employer or future training provider so they may need to look at NVQ, VTCT or ITEC course rather than the fast track course we offer.

Insurance The Guild is the leading trade association in the UK and one of the biggest providers of insurance for beauty therapists, holistic therapists, and nail technicians. If you want to set up in practice you must hold valid public liability insurance. This is to protect your client and to protect yourself in the unfortunate event of a claim being made against you. All therapists requiring insurance cover must hold recognised qualifications. It is always worth “shopping around” for the right insurance cover as prices can vary. There are many insurance companies that specialise in providing cover for therapists and information is always provided when undertaking any Vitality Course. NOTICE If you already have insurance cover in place ALWAYS check that your chosen insurance company will offer cover BEFORE undertaking any Vitality Holistic Therapy Training Courses. Please note that bookings are subject to Terms and Conditions. When making a booking students will be required to sign a declaration that they will abide by the terms and conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions Why do colleges offer Indian Head Massage, Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy, Facial Massage, Reflexology and other courses over a long time period of time? In order to make college courses viable business, they have to ensure a minimum number of students are enrolled on a course at any one time and the tutors need to deliver the courses over a longer period of time to ensure all the students understand the techniques and routines. When I trained, I was in a class of 16 students; can you imagine how long it took the tutor to check that each individual was carrying out the techniques correctly in order to carry out an effective massage? If we take Swedish Body Massage as an example, we learnt how to massage an arm one week, then the front of the leg the next week and so on; it certainly made for a long drawn out course! On our courses students learn the same techniques taught in colleges but over a short period of time and the beauty of having a small class is that it allows your tutor to observe you closely at all times and as a student it allows you to absorb the information in a shorter period of time and ask any questions along the way. A HUGE plus is that you do not have to wait until the course is full to do your training as we will run a course to fit in with your schedule and teach you on a one to one basis if necessary; no worrying about your course being cancelled at the last minute.

College courses are very expensive and can take up to a year to complete, so with short courses you spend less money to train and can be working in a shorted period of time. We want our courses to be available to everyone and for you to have the reassurance of professional teaching and quality training material which is why all our courses are registered with and accredited by The Beauty Guild so you are able to obtain an accredited and verified qualification and obtain insurance cover which will allows you to work as a practitioner when you feel ready.

(Some courses do require the submission of case studies before the full Diploma is issued but students will take away with them a certificate of attendance on the day. All our courses are insurable through The Beauty Guild and many are verified by IPTI for insurance purposes including our 2 day Swedish Body Massage Diploma, 3 day Aromatherapy Massage Diploma and our 3 day Reflexology Diploma. If you are planning to work in a spa or salon, you MAY need a nationally recognised qualification such as NVQ, VTCT, ITEC or City and Guilds.)

Can I learn Hot Stones if I have no experience of massage

No, students will require a Full Body Massage qualification in order to train in Hot Stones Massage and Thai Compress Massage.

Many of your courses are one day. Can I learn what I need to know in a day?

We assess you before the course by sending out an Initial Assessment Form which we ask you to complete as it gives us an insight into your prior learning, knowledge and experience. We can then tailor the course to meet your individual learning requirements. The practical application of a modality is very important and we teach you to be competent and confident. Your course comes with a comprehensive manual which covers many aspects of working as a therapist as well as information on the modality. We give you the underpinning knowledge so that you can then go away and gain the

experience. With only very small classes and often one to one tuition 99% of students feel one day is fine. Our feedback says it all and of course, we offer students ongoing support and a free training day if they feel one day was not enough or we feel that a little extra tuition would help. We have all our courses assessed and accredited by the Guild who have very high standards and all our tutors are highly skilled professionals, fully qualified, insured and registered with the Beauty Guild so you can be assured you are in safe hands.

I am a beginner without any experience or qualifications in Anatomy and Physiology or Massage. What courses should I do first? We would always recommend students study for an A and P qualification and we can help and guild you with this but it is not essential for certain modalities. We offer several courses where a Massage qualification and Anatomy and Physiology are not a requirement. Indian Head Massage, Ayurvedic Arm and Hand Massage, Thai Style Back Massage, Thai Style Foot Massage, Holistic Facial, Thermal Auricular Therapy, Combined Facial and Aromatherapy Blending. Because all our courses are accredited you will be able to obtain insurance to practice these modalities professionally. In some of our course manuals we include essential A & P and in all instances we provide students with a small and easy to understand book on A and P which they can take away with them and which forms part of the course material. What if I do not have Anatomy and Physiology? In some instances, The Guild of Beauty Therapists will accept therapists as members and provide insurance cover without an Anatomy and Physiology qualification but this is subject to the type of course being undertaken. We would always recommend students study Anatomy and Physiology and where possible, Pathology, as these two qualifications will give students a real understanding of how the body works and how illnesses can affect the body. We do offer both courses through the Beauty Guild and information is available by clicking on the link GTi Beauty Guild Courses Will I be able to work in a spa or salon after my training? We provide quality training at Vitality Holistic Massage and Beauty Training but it is the students responsibility to ensure that the course they are studying will be recognised by their current employer or future/prospective employer or future training provider so they may need to look at NVQ, VTCT or ITEC course.

Will I be able to set up my own business after my training? For sole traders and therapist who wish to have their own Holistic Therapy Business, our courses are perfect. Our 2 day course in Swedish Massage, and our 3 days courses in Reflexology and Aromatherapy have been written with The National Occupational Standard as approved by Skills for Health* in mind and verified by IPTI and of course, are accredited by the Beauty Guild, which mean that both IPTI and the Beauty Guild will insure therapists to carry out treatments on clients.

* https://tools.skillsforhealth.org.uk/competence/show/html/id/2804/

Will I be able to get insurance?

All our courses are accredited by the Beauty Guild who are happy to offer membership and insurance for all courses taught by ourselves. If a student already has insurance cover in place it is their responsibility to check that their insurers will offer cover for the modality for which they are receiving training BEFORE undertaking any Vitality Holistic Massage and Beauty Training Courses. Vitality Holistic Massage and Beauty Training does not accept responsibility, nor will a refund be given, in the event of an employer, training provider or insurance company NOT accepting a Vitality Holistic Massage and Beauty Training qualification. (Fast Track Swedish Body Massage, Reflexology and Aromatherapy Massage are now accepted by IPTI )

If you already have insurance in place please check that your chosen insurance company will insure one day Guild accredited courses.

28

How do I pay for my course? We do ask that all courses are paid for in full prior to the day of training. This can be done by cheque, bank transfer or we can send you a PayPal invoice so you can pay by credit card. (There is a 4% surcharge for PayPal)

Do I need to bring a model with me?

No a model is provided and if there are two students attending a course you will work on each other, however, if you have a friend who’d like to act as your model on the day, they’ll be most welcome, but they need to be able to offer constructive feedback, not fall asleep (though they probably will!)

Do I have to bring my own equipment and products? No, everything is provided for you on the day of training. Your tutor will give you information on the best place to purchase equipment and products for your own personal use after the course. We do ask that you bring your own lunch but refreshments are provided.

What are CPD Points?

All our courses have been awarded CPD points (Continuing Professional Development). There are a certain amount of points required by various bodies (IFPA, FHT etc) to ensure that members are up to date with knowledge and training. For example Aromatherapists registered with the FHT and Reflexologist who are members of the Association of Reflexologists are required every 3 years to keep their training in massage up to date and will look for CPD courses to be able to do this.

Vitality Holistic Massage and Beauty Training has been providing quality training to students since 2006. Over the years we have had many recommendations and testimonials to be proud of with many students returning for training time and time again. Here are a few testimonials from 2015 I have just done my first training course with Sue, and it will not be my last, I find read and writing very difficult, I explain this to Sue before hand, when I arrived at training, Sue went though all the paper work very clearly and had even added some simple drawing on the page to help me, which was great, I'm more about hands on, so I couldn't wait to start my training, Sue's beauty room is so beautiful and relaxing, Sue went though all the training very slowly and clearly for me, and I picked it all up straight away, The candle ear treatment was amazing, but the facial massage was just so relaxing, not only for the model but for myself, I could not have pick the most perfect teacher to learn with, her skills are above the rest, I always do my training 1-2-1 as I find this works for me, With Sue I felt she went above this, nothing was a rush for her, and I felt I could ask her any question I liked, I had I tickle of a cough and had to stop training a few time, this was no issue and I was made to feel at ease with this, I came home with another certificate, I now have 14, Which I’m so pleased about, Sue gave me a lot of information about my course which in my own time I can go though it, The day was so enjoyable and it was also great fun as she is also full of fun personality like myself, Sue you are a lovely person and I’m hoping to see you soon for more training and biscuits xxx Sara November 2015 Having been taught Indian Head massage with Susan I would most definitely recommend vitality holistic as a fantastic school of very experienced teachers with a passion for sharing their knowledge and experience empowering the students with fabulous standards in a relaxed learning environment Nicola February 2015 Completed facial holistic course with Vitality. Lovely environment to learn in and a very productive day. Supportive tutor to help you feel comfortable at attempting the practical. Recommended! Safina June 2015 I have just completed the three day Reflexology Diploma. The tuition was one to one and very intense with a good structure to the three days. Course hand outs are of a high standard as was the tutor support. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend. Looking forward to the next course!! Lynne August 2015
