The use of silver as an anti-bacterial and healing agent goes back to ancient Greece.Long before modern pharmaceuticals, it was even used as an antibiotic and germicide.Understanding that polypropylene is recognized as a very good wicking fiber, Arcos Spa developed a patented fiber, adding sil-ver ions in the manufacturing process, creating Silver DryStat®.

Because silver ions are built right into the core of the fiber, they inhibit the growth of bacteria and moulds reducing unpleasant smells and keeping biological skin balance during athletic activities. As we know, body temperature is crucial for comfort during physical activity, therefore, Silver DryStat® becomes fundamental due to its extraordinary insulating powers. The water absorption index in Silver DryStat® is almost nil, it has a low conductivity and moisture is kept away from the skin.

So, if you are climbing the Himalayas, running a marathon or walking in the park wearing Silver DryStat® socks, then you are assured a perfect equilibrium between temperature and relative humidity even in the most extreme weather conditions. Compression is not a new technology; it has been used for years in medical patients with venous and arterial

insufficiency. However, the application of this technology to athletics is relatively new. There is clear evidence to support

compression use in promoting recovery. Using compression socks after a race or hard workout provide a substantial benefit.

These garments will help to avoid venous stasis (blood pooling in the legs) and swelling. Compression is particularly helpful in

depended areas of the body, such as the feet and lower legs where gravity has a greater effect on blood return. Improved blood flow after

a workout results in enhanced nutrient delivery and removal of waste products to and from muscles. This creates a situation optimal for muscle repair, reduced stiffness and heaviness in the legs and possibly less soreness. Several studies have

demonstrated that post exercise blood lactate levels were lower with compression sock use both during and after exercise. Other studies have demonstrated that compression socks do create a major fluid shift in the body. Compression garments are believed to improve venous blood return to the heart and allow for better cardiac output (flow of oxygenated blood from the heart) thereby aiding oxygen delivery to working muscles and increased endurance.

Since the year 2000, the Italian-based company Arcos Spa, always faithful to tradition and research has developed unique compression socks and obtained US patent n. 6,012.177 and n. 6,092,397.

Performance Graduated Compression – for racing or recovery – is a patented light weight sock made of Silver DryStat® with a padded footbed and a thin mesh stripe which runs from the middle of the top of the foot to the bottom of the cuff, on both sides of the sock. The mesh, together with the light weight fiber, gives supe-rior wicking and ventilation. The moderate compression is gradual, with the highest from the mid-foot to the top of the ankle, stimulating blood flow, incre-asing circulation, alleviating swelling, and contributing to a boost in performance and well-being.
