24 May – 15 June 2019 Vivid Sydney Road closures and special event clearways in the Sydney CBD area WHAT IS VIVID SYDNEY? Vivid Sydney is the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere and now the largest event in Australia. For 23 days and nights - 24 May to 15 June 2019 – the event places a spotlight on Sydney and reinforces its position as the creative services hub of the Asia Pacific region. The festival is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency. Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House Crowd favourites including Customs House, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and Cadmans Cottage will become canvases for world-renowned projections. The Sails of the Sydney Opera House will be illuminated with an artistic tribute to Australia’s native plants; book tickets to some of the best contemporary music artists in town as they take centre stage for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House. The Rocks Venture into this historic precinct where laneways, heritage architecture and leafy streets create the perfect backdrop for the Vivid Light Walk. The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney Vivid Sydney’s bright lights will illuminate the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney again in 2019, where visitors will follow a pathway that weaves through an exciting nocturnal environment inspired by nature. Entry is via the Queen Elizabeth II Gate on the eastern side of the Sydney Opera House Forecourt via East Circular Quay. Darling Harbour The harbourside precinct is the setting for one of the most thrilling spectacles of Vivid Sydney 2019, the astonishing and technologically advanced Robot SPACEland. Don’t miss the Tumbalong Lights inclusive playground at Tumbalong Park and the projection on the roof of the Australian National Maritime Museum. Barangaroo Sydney’s newest waterfront dining district is back! Barangaroo will glow under layers of light and sound that evoke the surrounding waterways, with the precinct coming to life through the magnificent art of puppetry. Harbour Lights Harbour Lights turns the waters of Sydney Harbour into a Vivid Sydney precinct, with many vessels moving across the water in a gentle, synchronised lighting display. Luna Park Sydney The entire Amusement Park comes alive with brilliant shapes, patterns and colours that light the Midway promenade and enhance high-octane rides such as the new family thrill ride – Volaré. Taronga Zoo Vivid Sydney’s wildest precinct will light up once again, shining a light on conservation and the wonders of wildlife with incredible animal light sculptures, brighter than ever before. Chatswood Vivid Sydney at Chatswood shares the love as local and international artists combine light and art to create a cityscape of peace and harmony. vividsydney.com VIVID SYDNEY PRECINCTS Extra public transport services Thousands of extra services will run during Vivid Sydney and all precincts are easily accessible by public transport. With major road closures and parking restrictions in place, the best way to travel between precincts is to leave the car at home and catch public transport. Make sure to have a valid Opal card and top it up before you travel to avoid queues at machines. Alternatively you can use a major debit or credit card to tap on and off trains, ferries and light rail services. Buses in the city will be affected by the road closures and will use temporary stops.
