1 Edit the RBSU (ROM Based Setup Utility).
Boot the system and press the F9 key when prompted.

4 Make sure the “Virtualization” feature is enabled
5 Copy “hpvm-recovery” to local disk. And mount it into virtual media.
Install over network using iLO’s Virtual Media.

Boot or reboot your server to the virtual media.

6 The media is bootable and will kick off an easy self-guided application.
Press Enter to continue, and press Enter again to confirm install fro m recovery CD
7 Un-mount the virtual media and reboot server when the installation completed.
Click “Disconnect” on the Virtual Media page, and press Enter to reboot.

8 Server will boot into ESX 3i system.
Press ‘F2’ to enter customize system console.
9 Choose ‘Configure Root Password’ to set the password.

10 Enter the password twice to set it for root user then press Enter.
11 Enter ‘Configure Management Network’ to configure the network parameters.
This is the service console network connection which use for remote network management of the ESXi server.

12 Enter “Network Adapters”
13 Choose 2 network adapters for redundancy.

7 Choose the update which need be applied and click ‘next’ to proceed.

How to scan storage adapter to add a new LUNStep Action/

1 Note: SAN Identifier name should be informed to storage team for LUN assignment.
Storage team will then assign the new LUN to the relevant fiber channel card.
Click the ESX host, in the right panel, choose configuration tab and click ‘storage adapter’

How to backup and restore a ESXi configuration Step

1 Run the VMware vi remote cli program.
2 In the cmd prompt window, type the command as this format to backup a esx3i server‘s backup to a file: vicfg-cfgbackup.pl –server <ip address> <file path>
3 It will prompt for the ESXi server’s user name and password, enter the password, it will generate a file to the input path.

4 To restore a configuration backup file to a ESXi server, type the follow command in the command window:Vicfg-cfgbackup.pl –server <ipaddress> -l <backup file path>.
Make sure the backup file is corresponding to the right server.
After restore completed, it will prompt to restart the server. Type ‘yes’ to confirm.

To power on/power off a virtual machine ,Right click it and choose power on or power off.
Choose suspend /reset to suspend or reset a virtual machine.
Shut Down Guest option will shut down the OS. It will not be available without the VMtools installed.
