VMware fuels African expansion with appointment of Redington Value

- New distributor will drive virtualisation and datacentre technologies to resellers

across the African continent

Redington Value, the value-added distribution division of Redington Gulf, has beenappointed as a VMware distributor in WECA, marking a significant drive by the leaderin virtualisation and cloud solutions into the African continent.

As a value added distributor, Redington Gulf currently has a distribution chain thatserves resellers throughout: Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Nigeria,Sao Tome and Principe, Central African Republic, Congo, Congo (DRC), Djibouti,Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda.

The WECA region has been an area of tremendous growth for VMware andRedingtons appointment will fuel this growth, adding valuable support to the partnerchannel and subsequently to customers in the region, states Chris Norton, regionaldirector southern Africa. We believe that through their efforts in taking our solutionsto and developing skills in the African market, the company will bring the reality ofthe software defined data centre, hybrid computing and end user computing to theregion.

Africa is in a crucial point in developing its infrastructure. This includes themodernisation of existing systems, the adoption of innovative solutions, the ability totake advantage of increased agility, all the while reducing the costs of theseinfrastructure investments. Our partnership with Redington will allow them to furtherassist their customers in making this a reality for businesses throughout Africa,adds Norton.

In addition to its experienced and capable operations, as well as itspre-sales skills and marketing abilities, Redington emerged as an ideal candidate tobe a distribution partner for VMware. The partnership is a result of a thoroughevaluation process where a number of well-known distributors in the region wererequired to tender.
