The Mobile Business ImperativeMobility remains a top strategic opportunity for
businesses of all kinds, due to the potential to make
an enterprise more competitive, whether by making
employees more productive or by engaging with
customers in innovative ways. To realize this potential,
enterprise mobility must give users a seamless experience
across multiple devices and deliver a secure workspace
for business-critical applications. To serve this mobile
workforce and customer base, enterprises must safely
enable BYOD and self-service capabilities with an
established platform that scales to support
new processes.
An enterprise mobility management (EMM) platform
provides IT with an opportunity to enable business
process transformations, drive new revenue streams,
and create memorable new ways to connect
with customers.

More Effective Mobile UsersMobile devices have become the preferred way for many people to get online.
Because of their small size, they enable workers to access content and collaborate
from anywhere. But how can organizations keep information secure, while still
giving users the tools they need to be effective? VMware® AirWatch solutions
simplify enterprise mobility management, with a scalable solution that enables
organizations to get business-critical data, email, applications, and content
onto devices without sacrificing user privacy.

We wanted to enable doctors to securely
collaborate anytime, from anywhere. A
doctor who is able to provide a second
opinion without having to attend the
hospital or rely on the verbal description
of an x-ray is extremely valuable and
significantly increases patient safety.
— Axel Ernst, Business Analyst,
University Hospital Basel
“
”
University Hospital Basel can now meet their goals for collaboration.
University Hospital Basel is a leading hospital in
Switzerland that uses cutting-edge technology to provide
outstanding care to their patients. Recently, they launched
an initiative to give doctors seamless electronic access to
patient data. Doctors and healthcare staff use a mobile
app on hospital iPads to view x-rays, access records, and
accurately recommend treatment options with ease.
Since a mix of personal and corporate-owned devices
were used for this initiative, the hospital began
researching enterprise mobility management (EMM)
solutions. They wanted a solution that was robust
enough to keep sensitive patient data secure — and
smart enough not to restrict access to doctors when
they needed it most.
AirWatch fits all of the hospital’s requirements. The
VMware AirWatch® App Catalog™ allows the hospital
to distribute applications to employees based on their
job role, so patient information never ends up in the
wrong hands. Meanwhile, IT can use download data to
drive targeted decision-making across departments.
With AirWatch, physicians can now access patient
information in real time, and communicate more
effectively with the people they serve. Hospital
patients have confidence that their doctors know what
they’re talking about. Says Dr. Jens Eckstien: “It has
increased patient trust as they feel more included in
the diagnostic process.”
Next, the hospital plans to extend some of these
capabilities to their patients. For the first time in hospital
history, patients will be able to securely access and use
mobile devices during their treatment. By choosing the
right approach to mobility management, the hospital
has opened the door to a world of new possibilities.

Our systems reduce paperwork, increase
efficiency and improve access to information
for our pilots where it is most needed. The
AirWatch-managed electronic flight bags meet
these requirements, helping bring technological
advances of computer information delivery and
management to the flight deck.
— Captain Nasser Al Salmi, Chief Operating Officer,
Gulf Air
“
”
Gulf Air saves 500,000 sheets of paper every year.
One of the longest-serving airlines in the Middle East,
Gulf Air has been the national carrier of the Kingdom
of Bahrain since 1950. Every year, it transports millions
of passengers to more than 40 destinations in 24
countries — making organization a top priority.
Gulf Air needed a system that let them organize crucial
information securely — without compromising pilot
efficiency. To maintain a high standard of service, they
had to provide pilots with on-demand access to flight
plans, procedures, weather charts, aircraft manuals, and
more. The airline also wanted to cut down on printing
costs by providing electronic access to flight information
instead of paper printouts. They were looking for a
solution that protected sensitive flight data but didn’t
restrict pilot access.
After much careful research, the airline decided on
AIrWatch. The solution fit seamelssly into their electronic
flight bag (EFB) project, and has since transformed their
operational efficiency. Pilots are able to look ahead at
maps, flight paths, and cargo data to determine optimal
routes. Flight documentation is readily available on their
iPads for quick, anytime access.
By the end of 2016, Gulf Air hopes to extend their
EFB program to all flight personnel, increasing their
managed-device count from 400 to 750. From passenger
preferences and meal plans to behind-the-scenes
operations, the right mobility management solution has
allowed the airline to increase efficiency and improve
customer service like never before.

With AirWatch, faculty members can securely access
email, calendars, and hospital resources. Meanwhile,
students can participate in polls and collaborate with
tools like Evernote. And it’s easy for MCW’s IT department
to manage and deploy apps with VMware AirWatch
Mobile Application Management™.
AirWatch allows MCW to offer their students and staff the
freedom they want, and the security they need. Providing
students with course material, staff with resources, and
IT teams with more time to innovate has made an
enormously positive impact on day-to-day operations.
Since implementing AirWatch, we’ve achieved
a healthy balance of security and empowerment.
Our MDM strategy provides the flexibility our users
need while maintaining an aggressive information
security program.
— David Hotchkiss, CIO and Vice President of Information Services,
Medical College of Wisconsin
“”
MCW empowers individuals to securely work where, when, and how they wish.
The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is the
largest research institution in eastern Wisconsin, and
the second-largest in the state. Their staff of scientists
and physicians have made more than 200 important
discoveries that have saved or improved the quality of
lives. Each year, the university cares for over 425,000
patients and handles more than 1.6 million visits.
Since MCW specializes in clinical, research, and
classroom settings, they needed an enterprise mobility
management solution that would empower students,
researchers, and faculty without compromising sensitive
information. MCW wanted their students and staff to
have access to college resources on their personal
devices without losing control of their data, or invading
individuals’ privacy.
The college chose AirWatch for its flexible features,
robust security, and easy-to-use interface. The AirWatch
team walked MCW through every phase of testing, making
sure they got all the support they needed along the way.
They have since been able to secure more than 4,300
tablets and smartphones, giving everyone peace of mind.

Instead of our sales team using paper to write
down orders and then recording them back at
the office, they can directly input the orders on
their tablet. AirWatch was one step ahead of the
competition with all of these features.

AriZona Beverage is a fast-growing company, distributing
iced tea and energy drinks around the world. With over
400 employees, and a mobile fleet of over 250 tablets
and smartphones, IT director Andrew Knapp knew
it was time for a mobile device management (MDM)
solution. In addition to having corporate-owned devices,
AriZona needed to implement a BYOD program for
employee-owned devices.
For AriZona, providing their sales teams with a secure,
efficient mobility solution was a priority. Team members
regularly travel from store to store, filling inventory and
selling new products. Before AirWatch, each salesperson
used a paper and pen to record orders before returning
to the office to create an electronic record. The IT
department knew there had to be a better way.
After deploying AirWatch, AriZona saw an immediate
positive difference. VMware AirWatch® Content Locker™
helped streamline sales operations, and was easy for
team members to learn. Now salespeople can enter
orders in real time and showcase new products and
beverage information. AirWatch gave AriZona the ability
to meet their sales goals – and their environmental
initiatives, too. From quick and easy deployment, to
user-friendly tools, AirWatch has enabled efficiency
as never before.
AriZona Beverage sales reps are no longer dependent on paper order-taking.

The concept of a self-service portal that makes
each user autonomous, with functions such as
remote data deletion, smartphone enrollment,
temporary locking of a device or ticket incident
opening, enormously lightened the work
of IT services.
— Julien Royere, Head of IT Security,
BearingPoint
“”
BearingPoint is an IT and business consulting firm
operating across 20 countries. With more than 3,700
employees and consultants who travel around the
world to meet clients, mobility is crucial to the
company’s success.
The firm wanted to find the right enterprise mobility
management (EMM) solution, but as an IT provider, they
had to choose carefully. And because BearingPoint
consultants travel from country to country, they needed
to ensure device and data security regardless of location.
AirWatch fit all of BearingPoint’s criteria for an EMM
solution, and then some. Its powerful management tools
and features lighten the workload for IT services, freeing
them for other critical tasks. For on-the-go users,
AirWatch can be customized to several different
languages, ensuring that local IT services are always
readily available. A global security policy keeps data
and devices safe, with a local team that decides which
actions their consultants are allowed to perform.
No matter where BearingPoint’s consultants go, AirWatch
applications are with them. The AirWatch Catalog allows
business users to access up-to-date applications anytime,
anywhere. Expense management is one area that has
been completely transformed: While employees
previously had to scan an invoice, print it, and mail it,
they now simply snap a photo of the receipt with their
mobile device and send it on. Not only does it save time,
but it also reduces the number of errors in the system,
and makes business travel less stressful for everyone.
BearingPoint manages more than 4,000 devices across a global workforce.

GSK manages more than 31,000 iPads in 180 countries.
The AirWatch solution allows us to control
our resources on a global scale. From a single

GlaxoSmithKline
“”
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is a leading global healthcare
company with a focus on vaccinations, modern
prescription drugs, and health products. Operating
in a highly regulated market, GSK had to implement an
EMM solution that could help them stay in compliance,
providing ready access to authorized users without
compromising sensitive data.
With devices across 180 countries, finding the right EMM
solution was not an easy task. GSK needed to protect
their intellectual property, keep client records safe, and
allow consultants to access company resources no
matter where they were.
After testing a number of EMM solutions, GSK chose
AirWatch to keep their devices and data safe. Its robust
approach to security, smart management tools, and ease
of use made it the right choice then — and now. Three
years after implementation, GSK has deployed more than
31,000 iPads in 180 countries, all managed by AirWatch.
With AirWatch, GSK employees can securely access
up-to-date documents and files through VMware

to each employee’s location, providing compliance
with local laws and regulations.
Since implementing AirWatch, GSK has seen a rise in
productivity, efficiency, and communication. Employees
are better able to stay in touch with one another and
their clients, ensuring that being on the road no longer
means being disconnected. With everyone in the loop,
decisions get made faster and time spent catching up
is no longer necessary.

Trinidad & Tobago IFC ”
Trinidad & Tobago International Financial Center (IFC)
is an emerging international financial hub. Their current
initiatives include facilitating new financial programs and
professional training, and ensuring office employees and
traveling executives have real-time access to corporate
data. Keeping their resources secure and compliant with
industry regulations was a top priority.
Prior to AirWatch, the company used Blackberry devices
to keep corporate email, contacts, and calendars secure.
But an upgrade meant that employees and IT alike
would be put through the time-consuming process of
learning and implementing a new system. The company
wanted an enterprise mobility management (EMM)
solution that was easy to deploy, and IT administrators
can monitor device locations, and remotely wipe
sensitive data in case of loss or theft. Any major mobile
device can be enrolled in AirWatch within minutes, and
configured with appropriate security clearance based
on an employee’s company role.

Miroglio
“”
Miroglio Fashion is a clothing company that owns
subsidiaries all around the world. With 11 brands and
1,300 stores, they decided to introduce mobile devices
to their stores to improve the customer experience,
reduce employee travel costs, and enhance in-store
efficiency. As they searched for an enterprise mobility
management solution, they wanted one that offered
central management capabilities with the ability to
push apps to in-store devices.
Miroglio chose AirWatch because it was flexible enough
to meet their needs without compromising on speed or
security. With AirWatch, Miroglio is now able to manage
a fleet of more than 1,300 mobile devices, most of them
Samsung tablets that enable store managers to do their
job more effectively.
The benefits don’t stop there. Store managers use mobile
devices to recognize and profile loyal customers, trace
their purchases to understand shopping habits, and
suggest article purchases. At Miroglio headquarters,
decision-makers can send staging information straight to
store managers’ tablets so that they don’t have to wait for
merchandise planograms. Miroglio employees can use
tablets to check email, participate in e-learning programs,
and securely share corporate documents.
AirWatch has helped Miroglio increase sales, improve
collaboration between stores, and reduce travel costs for
training. Thanks to AirWatch, Miroglio’s next move is to
enable video and chat applications that will allow store
employees to communicate around important issues as
they happen.

I deal with over 200 vendors and I wish I could

The third-largest county in Pennsylvania, Montgomery
County employs 3,000 workers who serve a population
of 800,000 citizens. They provide services ranging
from healthcare and public safety, to social services,
infrastructure, and business development — all on a yearly
budget of $385 million. To provide more effective service,
Montgomery County needed a mobile solution that
allowed employees to securely access resources anytime,
anywhere — even in rural areas.
Montgomery County’s existing IT setup was difficult and
time-consuming. Updates required IT to get into their
cars and drive around the county to manually perform
changes — which made a huge dent in the budget and
racked up IT hours. Their team needed an easy, secure
solution that allowed them to deploy, manage, and
expand desktops throughout the county. And they
wanted to provide a consistent experience from
desktop to mobile.
VMware Horizon® and AirWatch solutions transformed
the way Montgomery County works. Employees now
have easy access to critical documents — yet their
sensitive data stays safe. IT can manage devices and
deliver desktops remotely from a single platform,
saving hours of manual work.
Caseworkers, health inspectors, and sheriff’s deputies
are seeing a difference, too. Now they can easily view
and edit caseloads from their on-site devices, saving
them trips to the office or station. Productivity is up
and overtime is down.
