Vocabulary Verbs Assignment: For all verbs on your vocabulary list, you need to write and label them for all tenses. For each tense, also write a short sentence. Sentences should include a variety of subjects (singular, plural, 1 st person, 2 nd person, & 3 rd person). Start by writing the word & its definition. EXAMPLE: Verb: Founder Definition: to become wrecked; fail utterly Simple Tenses Past: (foundered) The company foundered during the economic crisis. Present: (founder/founders) I founder every time I try work on cars. Future: (will founder) Anyone that tries to stop the future will founder. Progressive Tenses Past Progressive: (Was/were foundering) The car was foundering as it tried to climb the hill. Present Progressive: (am/is foundering) I am foundering in math. Future Progressive: (will be foundering) Next year the Steelers will be foundering when they play against the Ravens. Perfect Tenses Past Perfect: (had foundered) We knew the Cardinals had foundered when the Super Bowl was over. Present Perfect: (has/have foundered) Students have foundered on novel quizzes when they didn’t read the book. Future Perfect: (will have foundered) By the end of next season, The Steelers will have foundered. Perfect Progressive Tenses Past Perfect Progressive: (Had been foundering) You had been foundering for weeks before the teacher called your parents. Present Perfect Progressive: (has/have been foundering) As a team, we have been foundering since our first loss. Future Perfect Progressive: (will have been foundering) By the time anyone receives tax refunds, the nation’s economy will have been foundering for too long.
