INTRODUCTION
For a quality job work required to dental patients, we need a good skill which can properly analyze the case, plan and execute the best available solution.
A Dental Technician plays a vital role in dentistry. He / She is a member of Dental Team, who is highly skilled in design, construction, repair and adjustments of a numerous variety of dental appliances. They are registered professionals who work closely with dentist in the construction, modification, repair of dentures and other dental appliances.
The combined expertise of technician and practitioner (Dentist) is needed to ensure that quality outcomes are achieved for the patients.

II OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:
- To develop individuals with scientific, Technical, innovative & sophisticated knowledge and skills for dental laboratory works.
- To Train the students to understand the needs of the dental surgeon. - Follow the codes of practice relating to infection control issued by
Dental Council of India.
III. SKILLS TO BE PROVIDED
- Proper identification and use of dental materials. - Proper handling of the dental laboratory equipment. - Make plaster & Stone models of oral cavity / jaws & teeth from
impressions that have been taken by a dentist. - Construct custom impression trays for prosthodontist or dentist to use. - Build up wax replicas of part or all of mouth or teeth using the model. - Replicate the Jaw positions using models on articulating equipment. - Form, cut or mould plastic, metal or ceramic materials to make
appliances using casting. - Use direct vision to record tooth shades. - Arrange artificial teeth for full or partial dentures. - Use manual skills to construct ceramic restorations, design & construct
fixed & removable acrylic and metal orthodontic appliances. - Polish & Finish all work prior to being placed in patients mouth. - Reline, repair or modify full or partial dentures. - To know basic knowledge about implants.

IV. JOB OPPORTUNITIES.
WAGE EMPLOYMENT / SELF EMPLOYMENT
- Paucity of Dental technicians is increasing as number of Dental Colleges in State are increasing & along with Dental Clinics.
- The majority of dental technicians are employed in commercial dental laboratories or Self-employed as the owner of dental laboratory to cater the need of ever-growing community of private dental practitioners [self employment]
- Demand for Dental technicians in abroad as researchers, sales and marketing managers, inventors, editors and consultants in an array of flexible work schedules.
- They can be appointed as demonstrators or educators to teach Dental Technician students after 5-7 years of practical experience in any D.C.I recognized Dental College / Hospital as Dental Technician.

I+II+III 1000 Note: The theory, practical classes and the On the job training shall be conducted at Dental college itself. The students shall attend in the morning from 8.30 a.m to 12.30 p.m during Out patient time at Dental college itself. Again by taking half an hour lunch break they shall come to the concerned junior college for remaining classes from 1.00 p.m to 3.00 p.m. Hence, there will not be separate O.J.T. for this course.

EVALUATION OF ON THE JOB TRAINING:
The “On the Job Training” shall carry 100 marks for each year and pass marks is 50. During on the job training the candidate shall put in a minimum of 90 % of attendance.
The evaluation shall be done in the last week of January.

NOTE: The On the Job Training mentioned is tentative. The spirit of On the Job training is to be maintained. The colleges are at liberty to conduct on the job training according to their local feasibility of institutions & industries. They may conduct the entire on the job training periods of (363) I year and (450) II year either by conducting classes in morning session and send the students for OJT in afternoon session or two days in week or weekly or monthly or by any mode which is feasible for both the college and the institution. However, the total assigned periods for on the job training should be completed. The institutions are at liberty to conduct On the Job training during summer also, however there will not be any financial commitment to the department.
