MiraCosta’s Horticulture Program teaches students the art and science of cultivating plants. The program also includes the study of the design, installation and maintenance of landscapes; agri-business; floriculture; and wine technology.
Horticulture Certificates & Associate DegreesMiraCosta offers a wide range of classes that meet days, evenings, weekends and online. Students may choose to earn one or more of the following certificates, work toward an associate degree or complete requirements to transfer. CertificatesofProficiencyCertificates of Proficiency are designed to be the first step in a career ladder. They are short-term certificates, typically requiring fewer than 18 units of course work, which introduce students to one aspect of a trade or occupation.

Students planning to earn an associate degree should meet with a MiraCosta College counselor before or early in their first semester to identify courses that meet degree requirements. The associate degree(s) listed above require completion of a Certificate of Achievement and general education courses specified in the MiraCosta College Catalog.
Prepare for a Great Career in the Green Industry!Horticulture students at MiraCosta College don’t have to look long for a job! Graduates have obtained careers in a number of horticulture-related fields, including floriculture and nursery industries, landscape and irrigation design, landscape installation and management, sports turf management, horticulture sales and services, enology and viticulture (vineyards/winemaking), and more.
Gain Experience Outside the ClassroomActivities outside the classroom include industry tours, internships, trips sponsored by the Student Horticulture Club, and participating in local competitions such as the PLANET Student Career Days and the San Diego County Fair.
