Today, over 1600 years later, the Creed is still a fundamental expression of what it means to be a Christian. At this time, the congregation stands and together we recite the Creed. This is more than a list of things which we believe; it is a statement of our faith in the Word we have heard proclaimed. The purpose of the Profession of Faith is that the people gathered may respond to the Word of God proclaimed and explained in the Homily, and that they may also honour and confess the great mysteries of the faith by pronouncing the rule of faith before the celebration of these mysteries in the Eucharist begins. Universal Prayer: Jesus says, ‘where two or three pray in his name, the prayers will be answered’ (Mat 18:19). The Liturgy of the Word comes to an end with the intercessions. Before concluding the Liturgy of the Word, we pray together for the needs of the Church and for the needs of all God’s people. The intercessions help us become who God is calling us to be. We are the Body of Christ through Baptism. Now, as we prepare to approach the table for the Eucharist, we consider the readings, like a mirror, and ask: Is that who we are? Does the Body of Christ, present in this assembly, resemble that Body of Christ pictured in the Scripture readings? And we know that there is something lacking. Hence, we pray that our assembly may really come to look like the Body of Christ, a body at peace, with shelter for the homeless, healing for the sick, food for the hungry etc. The intentions of our prayers normally include a prayer for the Church, nations and their leaders, people in special need and the local needs of our parish; the petitions usually fall into these four categories. We are also given an opportunity to pray for the intentions in our hearts, making, aloud, some common response, such as, “Lord, hear our prayer.” And we should make this our prayer. ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE HOLY MASS

One of the important things to achieve active participation in the Eucharist, is to know what is celebrated and to

understand our role in each and every part of the mass. Therefore, this week we are reflecting on The Profession of Faith

and the Universal Prayers.

Creed: During Mass, after the homily, the community gathered together profess its faith; that is the Creed. The Creed we

profess is the Nicene Creed which has been in its present form since the fifth century. The Creed was developed as an

expression of the basic beliefs of the Catholic Church. Today, over 1600 years later, the Creed is still a fundamental

expression of what it means to be a Christian. At this time, the congregation stands and together we recite the Creed. This

is more than a list of things which we believe; it is a statement of our faith in the Word we have heard proclaimed. The

purpose of the Profession of Faith is that the people gathered may respond to the Word of God proclaimed and explained

in the Homily, and that they may also honour and confess the great mysteries of the faith by pronouncing the rule of faith

before the celebration of these mysteries in the Eucharist begins.

Universal Prayer: Jesus says, ‘where two or three pray in his name, the prayers will be answered’ (Mat 18:19). The

Liturgy of the Word comes to an end with the intercessions. Before concluding the Liturgy of the Word, we pray together

for the needs of the Church and for the needs of all God’s people. The intercessions help us become who God is calling us

to be. We are the Body of Christ through Baptism. Now, as we prepare to approach the table for the Eucharist, we consider

the readings, like a mirror, and ask: Is that who we are? Does the Body of Christ, present in this assembly, resemble that

Body of Christ pictured in the Scripture readings? And we know that there is something lacking. Hence, we pray that our

assembly may really come to look like the Body of Christ, a body at peace, with shelter for the

homeless, healing for the sick, food for the hungry etc. The intentions of our prayers normally

include a prayer for the Church, nations and their leaders, people in special need and the local

needs of our parish; the petitions usually fall into these four categories. We are also given an

opportunity to pray for the intentions in our hearts, making, aloud, some common response,

such as, “Lord, hear our prayer.” And we should make this our prayer.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Divine Jesus, Son of the eternal Father and Mary Immaculate, grant many of the faithful true generosity in

following your call, and bestow on them the grace of your Holy Spirit to persevere in overcoming all obstacles

to their vocations. Give the church in this Diocese and throughout the world many holy priests and fervent

religious. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels, Blessed Justin and all

Saints, we humbly ask you to hear our prayers and multiply the ministries by which we may serve one another

in faith and love. Hail Mary…
