OAKWOOD GLEN ASSOCIATION

December Board Meeting

The December meeting of the Oakwood Glen Association tookplaceonthe 11th at7:30 PM at the Park Pavilion. Those in attendance included all nine Board members, Stella Wal­lack (Community Manager) and two interested residents.

Craig Paustian, Deed Restrictions Chairman, reported that on the November 27 drive-through there were 7 first-time notifications and 4 second-t ime notifications. These viola­tions were mainly stored vehicles and trailers.

Larry Fitzpatrick, Pool Use Chairman, announced that the locks to the bathhouse had been changed to prevent access to the pool through the bathhouse. the board is actively considering bids for pool service contracts for the 1991 pool season from Southwest Pool Management, D & S Recrea­tion, and Sweetwater Pools.

Judy Peplinski, Social Activities Director, reported that the Christmas event, Christmas caroling and a hayride, are ready as scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Nancy Pease, Collections Director, reported that mainte­nance fees are continuing to be paid due to the letters that have been sent to several homeowners.

Recycling of trash is still a concern of several residents. The topic will be addressed at the Water Board meeting.

Security Chairman Dave Gleason reported an increase in vandalism. If you should see anything suspicious, call the Constable.

Julie Crider, New Resident Director, reported that she needed more copies of the packet. The Board approved the cost of having more copies printed.

The next Board meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 PM at the Park Pavilion. As always, ALL residents are welcome to attend.

New Directory???

Since the addition of all the new Plantation homes in our subdivision, residents have expressed the need for an up­dated version of the Oakwood Glen directory.

This is a GREAT idea, but it REQUIRES a serious commit­ment by MANY volunteers. Several homeowners have already expressed an interest in being involved, but we need many people to collect the needed information.

The Maintenance and Development Committee, chaired by Greg Johnson, would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the individuals who showed up and worked hard on the Dec. 8 Workday.

All the wood structures in the front (pool area) and back (pavilion area) parks have now been painted with a water sealant. The debris that was left in the back park after the constriction has been cleaned up.

The following people deserve a thank-you from all Oakwood Glen residents for making our subdivision a better place to live: Dennie Payne; Craig Paustian; Beth, Tracy, Rachel, and Judy Peplenski ; and Matt, Bryan, and Beth Johnson.

Ladies Night Out

Women of the subdivision are invited to take the night off on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and meet at 7:30PM at Bennigan's at the North Oaks Mall (corner of Stuebner-Airline and FM 1960).

After the hectic holiday season, you deserve to get away for a relaxing dinner and socializing.

All women are welcome to attend these informal get-togethers, which are always held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM. Call Pat, 376-0574, for information.

Soup's On!

Again this year, Campbell's will offer Ehrhardt Elementary School the Labels for Education Program. Labels you save for the school help provide books, playground equipment, and audio visual aids for Ehrhardt.

Many products, such as Slim Fast, Campbell's, Del-Monte, Pep­peridge Farms, and Swansons are valuable to the school. Details were sent home in September with school children. If you don't have child, save them for a neighbor youngster.

Babysitting Co-op News

The Babysitting Co-op meets on the second Thursday of every month at 7:30PM in a member's home. The next two meetings will be Jan. 10 at the home of Elaine Patz and Feb. 14 at the home of Robin Majd.

Klein ISO Bond Election Set for Jan. 19

On Saturday, Jan. 19, voters in Klein Independent School District will be asked to authorize bonds to finance new school construc­tion and a variety of modernization projects. The bond election will be held the same day as the annual trustee election.

Each Klein elementary school serves as a polling place for the election. For both the bond and trustee elections, Oakwood Glen residents vote at Ehrhardt. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM on Jan. 19.

A public meeting will be held at the Klein central office, 7200 Spring Cypress Rd. (between Kuykendahl and Stuebner-Airline), at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 8. A second meeting, scheduled for 6 PM Thursday, Jan. 1 o, at Klein High School auditorium will precede the school board candidates' forum.

~ January At the Library ~ " Living Trust" is the theme of aseminarwhich will be conducted

by Sue Whorton and Scott Neil of A.G. Edwards at the Cypress Creek Library Thursday, Jan. 17,7-8:30 PM. The planned agenda will discuss effective means of distributing an estate while reducing or eliminating administrative fees and taxes through the use of trusts. A demonstration trust will be created. " Avoiding t he seven biggest mistakes people make with their money through financial planning and investment strategies" is the theme of a seminar to be presented by Dean Boebinger of IDS American Express which will be Monday, Jan. 28, 7-9 AM at the library. The agenda includes planning for retirement and/or your children's education and ways to minimize taxes through invest­ment know-how. Posting Signs Residents are reminded NOT to post signs for

garage sales, lost or found pets, etc. on the brick entrance signs for Oakwood Glen. They will be removed. Also, please remember to remove signs, posts, tape, etc. when your sign is no longer useful. Thank you.

~ Animal Control

Residents have expressed concern over the problem of dogs running loose around the neighborhood. Several problems are occurring because of the lack of animal control, which include the harassment of children on their way to school and garbage being dumped In the street and on lawns.

If your animal is one of the problems, please keep it restrained on your own property as a courtesy to others in our community and to obey the law.

Harris County Rabies Control Act of 1981 requires pet owners to keep their pets confined behind a fence, on a leash, or tethered out of access to a street or sidewalk.

Section 3 provides that any officer of the law may write a citation to pet owners for allowing their pets to run loose and, further, providing fines which can run up to $75 plus boarding fee.s of $5 per day.

If you see any stray animals, report them to Harris County Animal Control, 999-3191. If pets are loose, call the Constable. He can give a citation but cannot pick up strays .

The North Houston Christian Women's Club's regular monthly meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 10, Noon to 2 PM at the Covered Dish Restaurant, 3655 FM 1960 at Walters Rd.

Gift-A-Meal Program ~ Benefits Elderly, Disabled ~

Meals-On-Wheels is an intricate part of Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) mission of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors." The program assists homebound elderly and disabled individuals in our neighborhoods. Lunches are delivered five days a week by NAM volunteers to both recipients who can pay for the cost of the meals and to those who cannot pay for the cost themselves. "About 45% of our recipients cannot afford the nominal cost of $10 per week," says Mary Catherine Boettcher, one of the coordinators of the program.

NAM is seeking donations to defray the cost of the meals. A $1 0 donation will provide five meals for a person; a $40 donation will cover the cost of the lunches for a month. We all hear the phrase CPR regularly, even familiar to children. But how many of us have taken time to learn it? Not nearly enough. "I really need to do that," we often hear, even say it ourselves.

CPR can and does save lives and it only takes four hours to learn, perhaps the most important four hours in our lives. CPR is not only used on heart attack victims, but also for drownings, electrocu­tions, drug and allergic reactions, -whenever heart and breathing stop.

The CPR class also covers choking and the Heimlich maneuver, a life-saving maneuverforvictims choking on food or other objects.

In the 4-hourclass, you learn infant, child, and adult CPA; infant, child, and adult Heimlich maneuver; and practice both. American Heart Association-certified classes are offered both day and eve­ning for a charge of $10. The minimum age is 12 years.

Cypress Creek EMS maintains a CPR Information Line at 444-3278. This recorded line gives dates, times, place, etc. CCEMS encourages you to learn CPR. "We get a real lift when we pull up on an accident scene and see that CPR is being done. We know this patient's chances of survival are greatly improved," said a paramedic. Don't put it off.
